With your attention to detail I bet that engine is gonna be very long lived! Your cam video really shows why 6.0s are hard on lifters.

From what I can see those clips are only to hold the assembly together, once in place in the engine they don’t do much. Other wise it would be many engine with broken plastic parts inside of them. When I did my head gaskets one of them broke but I continued assembling and got the plastic clip later and installed it in place. Not to bad with some patience and carefulness I got it in place.

Normal operation, I agree they go for the ride; they are an assembly tool. However, I know one Ford tech who says they do have a purpose. If the valve has hysteresis from the guide rusting from sitting or gummed up, the clips will hold the rocker in place until normal valve spring pressure is returned. Not a bad explanation, but a rare occurrence.

Place the top of the rocker over the plastic clip and press down, with the ball bearing lubed up roll the pocket of the rocker over the ball and BAM its locked in.

Thanks Jack for the video! Did your truck come with the metal clips? I know the early models came with metal. Pre April 04? Always enjoy your videos.

Thanks Eddy. The original engine probably did, but since this was a 2010 Ford reman, no.

I pulled my rocker arms out the head and found out the clips were made of metal

The early engines had the metal clips. Many people wish they had them.
