I just started my subscription to ME Time Perfectly Pieced which came with two clear blue tiles. I had nooooo idea what they were for, so I searched KZbin and watched the entire series by Kimberbell and I got it, but then I found your video and honestly, in one video you made it all wayyyy more understandable, plus I really like how you showed the USB and how to pull up the design files. I am new to machine embroidery and actually bought my machine because I wanted to be able to do my own quilting but wasn't sure how to do it. This system is genius. Thanks Becky. I actually saw this in my quilt shop after doing an embrilliance course so happy with that. So i bought home this tile set only to find i couldnt open and copy the files to a usb or open in my embroidery machine. After so much mucking around i opened it up in embrillance. Orignally the 8x8 tile was too big for my hoop but with embrilliance and my new found knowledge i was able to decease the size of the design just that little bit. I have since completed 1 block perfectly.
@PowerToolsWithThread3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if a design is too large for the largest hoop of the machine, the machine won't be able to "see" the design. I wouldn't decrease the design any more than about .5" overall or you run the risk of distortion. You should be able to use the smaller designs with no problems.

Thanks for the info on how to get the USB files showing on my machine. Couldn't figure it out until I saw your video. I assumed the USB included in the kit worked on all machines, but obviously depends on memory and age of machine. Yes, if the USB drive that comes with the Tiles is too advanced (has too large of a memory) for your older embroidery machine, you can always transfer the files to the computer, and then copy them to an older USB the machine can use. I love work-arounds!

Can you use another designer's edge to edge designs with these tiles?
@PowerToolsWithThread2 жыл бұрын
I think so but you wouldn't get that blended look from the designs in the CBTs. These designs are digitized so that where they meet, one loop goes very close to the edge of the hoop and on the join it's a bit farther away in the same spot to resemble an allover pattern.
@renemcfarland61972 жыл бұрын
Becky, I hope you will see my post. I am confused how you finished putting the pillow together. Once you have completed the quilting, how did you insert the pillow form? Did you just use basic fabric for the back of the pillow, since the quilting won't show once you add the pillow form and another sandwich plus the zipper. Is that right?
@PowerToolsWithThread2 жыл бұрын
The pillow is fully lined so essentially it's two quilt sandwiches sewn together on 3 sides with a zipper. I serged the edges of the case for a clean inside finish. This video wasn't really about putting the pillow together, but instead to show how to use the CBTs. :) Sorry about that!
@sharonfeatherstone82193 жыл бұрын
This is fantastic and it’s always great to have another tool in our embroidery sheds! Only if this could integrate with DBJJ (I know, I know) end-to-end designs! I love those by the way, but it is frustrating to try to fit it all on a project because each of their design sizes is a different scale. Also love your technique of holding the project and fitting into the hoop! Would this work with a magnetic hoop?
@PowerToolsWithThread3 жыл бұрын
Sure, you could use a magnetic hoop. As you know, the DBJJ method is an end-2-end quilting which is designed to mimic a pantograph as if the project was on a longarm. Scale isn't an issue there because you don't have to "fit" the e2e design within the boundaries of any given spot - it's supposed to start a little off the edge and finish a little off the edge. But you're right, it's always great to have options!

Thanks so much, Becky - that is really one of the easiest to follow step by step on the CBT. I do have one question- do you advise drawing up the thread on first stitch and burying it in the quilt in order to stabilize the quilting?? If not, how do we ensure it doesn't loosen during laundering it? Thanks again - Really!! Im now one a Subscriber of Power Tools with Thread
@PowerToolsWithThread3 жыл бұрын
When an embroidery stitch begins and ends, it takes 3 tiny slow stitches that are a lock stitch before it begins to create the pattern and before the tail trim at the end. If you pull the bobbin thread up at the beginning to trim it off, there is still a knot buried already at the beginning. At the end, I just leave the tiny knot on the back and trim the tails. Or, if your machine has the ability to cancel the trim "scissor" stitch at the end, you can pull the hoop out of the machine at the end of each stitch sequence to create long tail threads, and then pull them up to the top with a hand needle to bury them. Hope that helps! Thanks for subbing!

This is a really nice system, thank you for the great demo. Do you happen to know what the largest size tile that can be used within the stitching field for a 5x7 hoop ( my largest hoop has a stitching field of 5.5”x8”). Also, have you thought of quilting the entire background first and apply the appliqué after? (Not sure if you could see your appliqué placement sheet from a light box through the batting.] Will you stitch your appliqué pieces down as the last step or was that done before you began the quilting? It looks like fusible/raw edge appliqué but I couldn’t be sure from the video.
@PowerToolsWithThread3 жыл бұрын
I didn't use any applique on this project. It's a panel from Lori Holt that looks like applique. The manual has a full list of the tiles that will fit in standard hoops (I think). It depends on whether you're using the Clear Blue Tiles method or the other set that includes additional space for placing batting down first and then has a fabric placement/tack down lines like the background quilting in Candy Corn Quilt Shoppe. Both sets of tiles come in the box.

I'm a newbie to Kimberbell products. Would you explain the difference between their 'sewing' version vs the embroidery versions?
@PowerToolsWithThread3 жыл бұрын
In the beginning of their business, KB offered Sewing Versions that didn't require an embroidery machine to complete the project. Then they started the machine embroidery projects and they would offer both pattern books but the embroidery version talks about when to change threads and describes what type of stabilizer to use in addition to any other info needed to complete the embroidery designs. That info isn't included in the Sewing version of the pattern books. This KB Cuties Table Toppers has everything for sewing and notes in it when to do the embroidery portions.

Can I useJuJu's edge to edge patterns with these tiles?
@PowerToolsWithThread2 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. These tiles are designed so the stitches are all inclusive to one design - like a large loop or a loop that has a finish on the inside that kind of hides itself. Juju's designs have a definite beginning and end point that must exactly match start to finish to give that single design appearance.
@DonalovesMegaLadybird122 жыл бұрын
