honestly, having the hammer and pom abilities on directional buttons is not a good idea. Whenever you have to move around and to cast hammer, you will have a harder time doing so if they are on directional buttons. You also didnt't talk about the L2+R2 and R2+L2 options, which give you access to more face button options.

I personally don’t use L2+R2 combination since you have no indication of when something is off cooldown. So i have my mount , sprint, and LB on those

​​​@@Alpacalips i dont use it for Cooldown Abilities. I have L2+R2 on all Jobs for the AoE Combo which is used only for Dungeons. The First Set is used for Single Target Spells but i made sure i have Spells that i use more frequent always on the Facebuttons since these Buttons can be Pressed easily while moving without taking the Thumb from the left Stick. Like he said having the Hammer on a directional Button is a huge no no sicce Hammer is the First Tool you would use for moving. For double Tapping L2/R2 i have Stuff that i dont use that frequently like Surecast,LB,Potions,Tempera coat or your Dash. As for Sprint you can create a Sprint Macro and bind it to L3 or R3

@@DantoriusD Hey! Can you show me how exactly your crossbars look like? I'm currently switching from M&K to controller and I have some trouble with understanding how to set up everything to be useful. I don't want to regret the switch, haha. This guide is very helpful but your comment put some light on some problems with movement and certain skills so I want to understand why and what's the best solution. Plus, I'm not native english speaker so sometimes I don't understand the terminology etc. So if you could help me with this, I would be more than happy!

@@dingo.p sure. My Thoughtprocess is actually almost always the same so because of that i use a Similar Layout for every Job. On R2+Facebuttons (X,O,Square,Triangle) i always use the Basic 1,2,3 Combo that most Jobs have. In Pictomancer Case its: R2+X = Fire in Red Combo R2+Triangle = Blizzard in Cyan Combo R2+Square = Comet in Black R2+O =Subtractive Pallet. The Reason i put it that way is because picto has its 1,2,3 Combo already on 1 Button which is quite Handy so i can put 2 Combos on only 2 Buttons. Holy and Comet are both instant Spells and both can be used while Moving so thats why i put them on the Facebuttons because i can Acticate them without taking my Thumb from the Analoge Stick. Next Colum is R2+Directional Buttons. I usually use these on all my Classes for the Big Cooldowns and/Or Bursts because due to the Fight Design and the 2 Min Meta its pretty Rare that your Burst Window happens during a heavy Movement section so it doesnt really matter that you cant Press these while moving. So as for Picto: R2+Up = Star Prism R2+Down = Int Potion (It Just Fits there) R2+Left = Rainbow Drip R2+Right = Scenic Muse Next Colum is L2+Directional Buttons. Ill start with them cause they make more sense. Again a Colum that cant be Access while moving L2+Up = Swiftcast L2+Down = Weapon Motif L2+Left = Creature Motif L2+Right = Landscape Motif So in short i put every Motif there ^^. Even there arent really Movement abilitys you can use them really good for movement if Swiftcasted. I usually swiftcast on the last GCD before movement and then press my Landscape or Hammer Motif and start moving. Its not really optimal since you have to use your Movement thumb for it so i use it most of a time in a really last Resort Situation when i have to move for a longer time. Usually Hammer+Comet in Black are more than enough. Last Colum are the Muses that can be Pressed while moving cause there are on the Facebuttons again. L2+Triangle = Mog of the Ages L2+Square = Living Muse L2+X = Weapon Muse L2+O = Hammer Stamp That is Basically my whole Setup for Single Targets and my Thought Process behind it. I tried to have similar buttons to earlier Assigned Buttons just for the Muscle Memory. Like my Motif Spells are in the same Direction as my Muse Spell so i always know my creature is Left and my Landscape is Right. You maybe noticed that 1 Button is missing which i really try to avoid using since its a dmg loss if you play the Optimal way and this is Holy in White. Even though it can be used as a Movement tool and is really great if used there but its a dmg loss compared to comet or Hammer. But i still have it on my Hotbar. I have set a additional Hotbar with 8 Slots when i Press L2+R2 at the same Time. To make it easier i also setup the same Bar if i Press R2+L2 because sometime you dont know which button you pressed first. This L2+R2 Setup is Build the same as my normal Setup but now i have the AoE Variants on the respective Position. And there is also my Holy in White on L2+R2+Square so even i try to avoid it in a Single Target Scenario i can easy press it while moving and it has the same Button Placement as Comet in Black just for the Muscle Memory. Also i have Set up 4 Buttons when double Tapping L2 and 4 Buttons when Double Tapping R2. Especially for R2+Facebuttons these are Roleskills that i use on all of my Caster and Healer on the same Position just for Muscle Memory. So Lucid Dreaming,Addle,Surecast (Arms Lengh for my Melees) On Double Tab L2+Facebuttons i have other Support Skills that are more Situational. Limit Break, Smudge,Tempera Coat. So jeah thats literally all ^^ if you have other Questions feel free to Ask. The Basic Idea of my Setup and the one from this Video is more or less the same so i wouldnt say one is right and one is wrong. I just would say mine is maybe a little bit more fleshed out and suitet for the Situation. I am mainly a Raider who runs Dungeons once in a Blue Moon and even there i usually run as a Healer or a Tank just for comfy queue Times so in my Case i dont really need AoE Skills on my Line of sight since there are barely used while raiding. In the End especially on a Controller you have to put the Buttons the way you are comfy with it. I can just show you my Layout and my Thought Process behind it but it could be the case that you absolute cant play with it and that is totally fine. Get some inspirations, watch a guide for a Rotation and then place the buttons you are suitable the most.

This definitely helps a lot, thank you! Especially since I do the same thing. Single target attacks on right face buttons. AOE attacks on left face buttons. Could you do one for Viper too? Edit: Added request for Viper

I'm using the "R2+L2" and "L2+R2" hotbars as well as the WX hot bar. For all my jobs I put the AOE-versions of their attacks on the R2+L2 version. so that way I only have to add holding L2, while already holding R2. lol I'm just lazy XD

Just started 'trying to play the Pictomancer (lol) and have been slowly swapping over to controller , so this has come in really handy. My only question is , what did you do with Tempera Grassa ?? , not spotting it , unless im totally missing something 🙂 Also if someone can suggest an easy to follow guide for this new Picto-mangler LoL

At 2:18 I put tempera coat on L2 + Right d pad. Tempera coat automatically becomes tempera grass’s after you use Coat. So it’s on the same button. Also if you need a guide on how to play the job, you can watch mine here kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZmrbkKdjp8-bhrM

I can do that next time. I just didn’t want people to interpret this video as an optimized rotation since this is just a beginners guide, but in retrospect that would have been much more clearer
