Powkiddy x18s Ultra - Black

These are our first impressions, on camera and unfiltered. It's the first time I've done a reaction video so if its a little unpolished I'm sorry about that.

The X18S while not being the worst, never was Powkiddy at it's best. There are 4 handhelds I believe Powkiddy outdid themselves and I call these their 4 gems! Those specific handhelds being the following: Powkiddy X17 (Steam Deck/Switch) Powkiddy RGB10 Max 2 (Switch Lite)(Max 2 is best handheld with a 5 inch display) Powkiddy A66 (GB Micro) Powkiddy V90 (GBA SP) I have the X18S and it's just an okay handheld to me as Powkiddy's Nintendo DS. The one thing the X18S does has for it is that it's their most powerful when it comes to smooth emulation, you get decent emulation up to N64 and PSP. Their X17 is their 2nd most powerful handheld with decent emulation up to PSP (the X17 is not so good with N64). The rest will give you decent emulation up to PS1. Last good handheld by Powkiddy would be their RGB20S, which I consider is Powkiddy's answer to ANBERNIC's highly admired RG351V. While at the same time it also resembles ANBERNIC's RG353V.

It always seem to be the case with Powkiddy, so much potential only to be ruined by the lack of attention to detail and effort. I have Powkiddy X15 and I love it but its power is limited to PSX and some PSP titles. It's really disappointing since this is one of the only few clamshell and it managed to turn out this way after months of preparation time.

And that's why i gave up on these devices, this niche has become pure cringe. They're literally taking everyone for granted at this point.

do you hasve a recomndashion for a PS2 hand held emulater?

The Retroid Pocket 3 + and the Anbernic rg505 have the same specs as the x18s with much better build quality and will get you most of the PS2 games. The availability of the rg505 makes it a better choice in my opinion. However, the Steam Deck which is much larger can emulate the entire PS2 catalog without exception.

@@Arcade1983 I ended up getting the retroid pocket 3+. The feckin micro SD card slot dosent work. Dealing with customer service has been a pain. Saw on Reddit another guy got one like 2 days later that also arrived broken.

You returned the device? Can you do a teardown to compare the changes?

While I can understand that it might be interesting to teardown both of the versions of the x18s to compare how little has changed. At the moment I am too infuriated by this experience to spent any more time on these devices. Maybe sometime in the future, but at the moment I think it would be better for all of us if we just move on.

I do not see an improvement in the screen. It still has very poor darks and the viewing angles are not very good.

I have an Android with steam on it all the emulators work perfect everything is modded to perfection and it's all free just buy yourself an Android phone and get on the internet don't know how watch some KZbin

So disappointing. I want a clamshell handheld for emulating PS2 and below so bad but these buttons just seem to poor. It's such a shame because everything else about it I like.

the sad thing is no one beside powkiddy really making cheap clamshell handheld.. hell even the gba sp styled handheld that is humanity necessity, powkiddy is the only one who make it (v90).. yeah we got funkeyS but that too small and the screen aspect ratio is a turn off. the gpd stuff too is outdated

This is the real disappointment. There is obviously a lot of interest in a well made, powerful clam shell. No one seems to be making it however.

"Powkiddy" should rebrand as "PoorQC" they dropped the ball again on this device. There aren't any other powerful Android clamshell devices on the market currently, this is the only option - just give us buttons and a d-pad with decent rubber membranes like Anbernic????? This is a hard pass, no sale.
