Good Video. I am new to your work. I am one of those that has multiple guns for multiple uses. The Ruger RPR is one that I just purchased last week. I put a Burris 4.5-14x42 on the rifle, but didn't put on any other accessories or gadgets; everything is stock, off the shelf. The CCI Blazer, Standard Velocity, and Standard Velocity Target all printed one hole at 25 and were really close at 50. I used a few other types of ammo, but the CCI was perfect so I didn't waste much of my more expensive rounds since I didn't have to. I then proceeded to dispatch a bunch of critters (pesky ground squirrels) from 40 yards or so, out to 143 yards. I am really impressed with the Ruger RPR; and I believe that is saying something since I also have a Bergara B14R, CZ 455, Tikka T1X and some custom built 10/22's. I highly recommend this rifle for "practical accuracy" purposes. Add a little nicer scope, and you will be even more impressed than you already were.

Mine was not that impressive. I was getting equal groups with my Ruger American Rimfire so I sold my RPR. I think the RPR is capable of better groups than I can get, but I ran out of patience with it- I shouldn’t need a lead sled to get better groups than a gun costing less with the same scope and bipod

@@crankygunreviews Sorry to hear about it not getting any better. That is definitely the thing about 22 shooting; one gun can love different ammo than the same model gun. I even have a $99 Rossi that can shoot flies off the target at 75 yards that I will never get rid of. Good luck on your next purchase and I look forward to looking up your videos.

I am going to have to agree with lazybear. A 1250fps 22lr round out of my cz452 zeroed at 25 yards hits 6 inches low at 100 yds, which would be about right for the group that is showing on the cardboard below the target. You are correct when you state that the standard velocity has quite a drop because of its lower velocity. I like your budget accuracy approach in this video.

There's no way the Aguila hit the target without a big drop. That was the CCI and the Aguila was below

You talking about CCI SV? It’s like 1050 fps, and Aguila is like 1250

1250 muzzle velocity will drop 5.5 inches at 100 yards if zero at 50 yards

@@crankygunreviews 13:50 lazybear and alane are both correct. You mixed them up in the video. The standard velocity CCI hit 10" low and the aguila hit 5-6" low. Which means the standard velocity hit where you were aiming with the aguila, and the aguila was the one that hit below the target. Nice video.

Could be. The problem with this type of testing is it takes so much time to set up - I could have put my camera at each target and shot my groups, then moved it and shot again etc, but it’s rare I have the whole range to myself for extended periods of time so unless I get three cameras or a nice spotting scope, I’m kind of guessing where they go when they drop that far

@Cranky Gun Reviews yeah, it's no biggie. I know it's a lot of work trying to get all the video footage. I just know from experience that with a 50yd zero, subsonics are about a foot low at 100yds, supersonics are about 6" low.

I shoot a comparable group with a 10/22! After seeing this, I feel pretty damn good! It's got nothing more than a Magpul stock, a cheap bipod, and a BX trigger, with a vortex 4x12 scope.

i think you got the general idea down with a defensive handgun i follow the pie plate rule so say a 6 inch group if its really tight im shooting too slow if its wider than 6 inches center of mass im shooting too fast

There’s about a 12 ft high dirt burm, and on top of that are steel plates about 8 ft high, with plywood in front of that.

I have read that some RPRR's need a bit of fine tuning to get them accurate. This seems to be one of them. I am a below avg shooter and my 50yrd groups are smaller than your 25yrd groups. Mine seems to like the SK Match ammo

There’s not much you can tune other than tightening the bolts that hold it together. I ended up selling it. Maybe some day I’ll buy a CZ because I have never heard of those giving poor groups, and they’re only a little more than this one was

@@crankygunreviews I love CZ! They make fine rimfire rifles and yes they are accurate. I have read and seen videos of the RPRR giving good results with bedding, adjusting torque values and offcourse installing competition barrel. But does one really want so much effort? At that cost you can buy a new CZ for less

@@plinkspot8750 yeah I didn’t want to go through hundreds more in upgrades to make an “accurate” rifle accurate… seems silly to me, I’d rather buy a more accurate rifle. It’s not like a cheap 10/22 that you throw a $120 barrel on, all these parts are more money and take more time, I’d rather just buy a more precise rifle.

@@crankygunreviews it's not the firearm... It's you. All of your groups have the same issue, trigger pull, a little bit of breathing on one or two rounds. In no way do those groups look like an issue with the firearm to me, they very clearly look like an operator issue. You're probably not getting a consistent placement or pull after working the bolt on each shot. Your breathing, to me it seems like you've got the wrong idea, it's not about how slowly you breath, it's about where in your breath you take the shot. I like to take mine at the very end of the exhale. Do what works for you. Like you said, you're not a "sniper", but don't blame the tool. You're talking about needing more than 9x at 100 yards? Go train, don't just sell off your firearms because you can't figure it out in 15 minutes. Possibly go find a course you can go to for long range shooting.

Ignorant Noob Question: Why did you run the bore snake thru the barrel? Cleaning? Does it make that much difference in accuracy? Also, thanks for focusing on guns & gear most of us can buy (eventually!) ♥️🇺🇸

It’s just to eliminate any variables that a dirty bore would have on accuracy when you switch ammo. The few rounds I shot, it probably would not matter but it’s for posterity sake

It isn't that it makes much difference in accuracy, it's that it could make a difference, so no reason to take a chance. Also, to remove powder and grease residue from the various brands of bullet lube and powder fouling, which can make a difference. Some rifles like clean bores for accuracy, some don't care what the barrel looks like-- it depends on the individual rifle. They're like men-- some like blondes, others brunettes, and the oddballs like red heads, while some of us just don't care what color her hair is. Happy shooting.

Unless you’re out in the desert, you should be able to find a stump, or tree branch, or rock to prop your rifle up on. I’m terrible off hand at distance- I’d be crouching and using my legs and elbows as support most likely: unless it’s an AR or shotgun…

I disagree if your hunting especially in the northeast it will be off hand or possibly with tree support(leaning against a tree) if it’s a confrontation and spur of the moment situation you definitely won’t be using anything to support the rifle besides yourself

What do you consider "practical accuracy"? Are you looking for miniscule groups at 100/200/300/x00 yards? Or is a minute-of-plate small enough for "practical accuracy"? Why does "practical accuracy" need to be done off-hand? When was the last time you shot a dime size group at 100 yards standing off-hand? How about a scope and a bipod? Would that not be considered "practical accuracy"?

Hi good idea ,lets look st a squirrel's head in my yout ishot a lot of squirrels,and thier head is about 3/4 inch . so if the gun with good ammo cant shoot 3/4 in at 50 yrd to me it is no good. now that rules out most usa amo except CCI , that is really ashamed . with all the great 22lr barrel makers and america still cant make moa at 50 yards

I’m not a marksman either- most of my guns are more accurate than I am. I often get told if I use a sand bag front and rear or clamp the gun in a vise it will get better groups. Of course if you take the person out of the equation, the gun is more accurate but it’s not practical…
