***************YES I KNOW 1/2 INCH AT 50 YARDS IS MOA FOR 22******************************
Quick accuracy comparison between my ruger precision rimfire and my 10/22. Both have ER shaw barrels. RPRF all factory parts other than barrel, 10/22 only factory part on it is the stock receiver. Both have diamondback tactical FFP scopes. All groups shot at 50 yards. NO STINGERS WERE SHOT DURING THE FILMING OF THIS VIDEO.
EDIT: Since sent both of these barrels back. the barrel in the RPRF would cut huge chunks out of the rounds due to the chamber being so sharp and wouldn't eject CCI std vel spent casings at all. Changed back to the factory barrel and all is well. Also sent the 10/22 barrel back because they're both awful. I changed the recoil spring to 10% increased power and it cycles CCI standard Velocity without issue.

I just bought the RPR. I have not even shot it and have already put the Shaw 20" on it which was the plan from the start. The fit on my barrel is snug but not tight and in fact just like the factory barrel. I did notice that before I installed the barrel I fitted some round into the chamber and the 40 grain bulk ammos were tighter in the barrel to the point that I wouldnt push them in. The 36 grain could not only go all the way in but I could get them out with ease. Im looking forward to shooting it this week. Great video! I do like to watch people shoot but your choice to show the targets was great because of how you had it organized.

when you say couldn't get them all in, do you mean the rifle wouldn't go in to battery? or it just wasn't pressing the bullet against the lands and grooves? after all the experiences i've had with prefit barrels have been nothing but negative i am not a fan.
@mlone7
@mlone7 2 ай бұрын
@1474 I mean that the 40gr were pressing against the land and grooves. The 36gr Federals I could put in, all the way, and eject them without pulling the lead out of the bullet. I have shot it since then. I havent shot any high dollar rounds through it yet. I shot Aguila, Federal, CCI Blazer, Rem Thunderbolt, Rem Golden boy, Wolf match, and some 40yr old Winchester Wildcat. It shot them all good except the rem gold boy. By good I mean less than MOA. I'm sure that it would probably do 1/2 MOA with good ammo. Some of the bullets went through the same hole so many times I thought I was missing the target. All this was at 50yds. I'm going to try 100 this next week. I also have some CCI standard and Norma tac coming in to try.

Thanks for another great review. Succinct, down to earth, covers a lot of ground. I don't usually hear about 10/22s being ammo finicky even bone stock, though sometimes I hear about one needing a new or premium extractor. It might be worth poking around in the receiver looking for anything rough, high spot, or rubbing. I'm guessing you've got the Kidd extractor as part of the bolt. Did you get the Kidd guide rod? Mine runs flawlessly anything but the worst bulk with squibs. And the new Sellier & Bellot Club. Maybe it was the nose shape on that ammo. I'm using the Feddersen receiver and Kidd internals.

Good videos man. It’s pretty funny how many guys are setting up the Diamondback Tac, because it makes sense for the $ and performance expected on the Ruger Precision right? Only thing I can add, and it’s a big one, is that every rifle is different and production line types WILL have variations to Ogive/headspace which WILL determine poor, good, or great performance. If people are utilizing .22 to enter the precision niche, get to know the value of understanding not only ballistics but also how rifle construction around ballistics is equally important. FYI for those who like to tinker with their 10/22's....... I "assembled" a 10/22 with the Ruger OEM receiver, OEM bolt, BX trigger, Magnum Research 17' carbon fiber barrel and Bell and Carlson anschutz stock. At 50 yards I can put all 26 rounds out of my steel lips mag within the diameter of a dime with Remington gold bullet hollow points. I get the feeling I just got lucky with this combination. I also have a Kidd 10/22 with the 18" lightweight barrel and VictorCo Titan22 stock that actually shoots the gold bullets a little BETTER.

I actually live about 10 miles from Shaw. I don't own any of their products, but I know several people that do. I wouldn't really call them precision. As far as the 10/22 goes, the magnum research and kidd barrels are amazeballs. I almost went with a proof research barrel on the kidd, but I ultimately decided to make it 100% kidd. I guess I'll just have to build another one.......

Another great video Corey, after watching the Bergara review I went back to see if a semi auto will ever shoot with a bolt gun. I have a Ruger Competition 10/22 that has done well with the KYL targets (my own targets...lol) and I’m looking to upgrade. I already have a Bergara HMR B14 in 308 so I know the quality of their guns but I also have a Volquartsen LLV 22 pistol which makes me look like a much better shot than I really am. My question is, would a top quality semi auto ever shoot with an equal quality bolt gun? I’ve watched enough competitions to see with a 60 second time limit a semi auto has an advantage if it can keep up with the accuracy of a bolt action. Thanks again for all the info.

i think there are a few semi autos that will shoot well BUT the issue you run into with them is reliability. sure you can clear a stage faster WHEN it runs well, until you get that misfeed and you spend 20 seconds clearing a stove pipe or whatever. my b14r had zero issues what so ever.

I agree that Green Tag is not that great, to put it nicely. Some of those speeds you mention are likely to be an issue going further out. 1126 is the point where things go sonic and that shift back does negative things to our accuracy. I've got a Shaw on my 10-22 as well and CCI SV is what I enjoy shooting the most and few higher dollar ammos do as well, or better, to include that Green Tag. SK Long Range Match is an ammo worth considering. SK Long Range Match is the only thing that consistently shoots a bit smaller groups through my .22s to the point where it is statistically significant. @@coreyd1474 Hey Corey Some of your comments in the video make me question your grasp of barrel harmonics: on a center fire rifle, you would load a bunch of different velocities and find an antinode, but of course 22LR doesn't give us this option. Just because one type of ammo has never shot well in your rifle doesn't mean it won't in a future rifle. What you need is a chronograph (you didn't note velocity on any of your tests so I've jumped to the conclusion that you don't have one): if a particular type of ammo is throwing inconsistent velocities, then ya it's an ammo problem (some of my bulk ammo has very roughly formed bullets which is basically 'the other problem' you can have with ammo) but otherwise, it's simply the fact that you're gun doesn't have a harmonic antinode at that velocity. Another way to do it is to find the most consistent ammo you can afford, and then put a tuner on the barrel (why does everyone assume the threaded barrel on these guys is for a supressor?!*#%!) to match the barrel harmonic to the ammo. Hope this helps you tighten up your groups.

I sounds like the headspace on you Shaw barrel is to small. Headspace on a 22 is the gap from the bolt face to the back of the chamber where the cartridge rim rests. The acceptable range of this gap is .042" to .049". You could get more head space by making a washer out of shim stock that is 0.001, 0.002 or 0.005 inches thick The washer would fit over the treads on the barrel and when you reinstall it in the receiver you will get more head space. Did you check the headspace when you installed the barrel. “Go” and “No-Go” gauges are used to accurately checking chamber length. You could also check with a gunsmith about adjusting the headspace. Right now you are trying to wear down the side of the bolt handle to get more head space.

@@coreyd1474 At 8:05 you point to the top left group and says its point .5 MOA. See that group looks like a quarter inch group to me. A quarter inch equals 1/2 MOA at 50yds. Guys--an "off-the-rack" Savage FV-SR will shoot like this with various brands of ammo. Mine certainly does. Less than $300 in the rifle and scope. A fifties era Winchester Model 52 shoots smaller groups out-of-the box. I have owned five Ruger 10-22s and all of them were jammamatics. Do any of them actually work??

.22 rimfire guns--whether pistol or rifle--are subject to the ammunition all of us are forced to put up with to say nothing of the "personality of the individual firearm. Some shoot well with a brand of ammo which does not work well in other's guns. When you find ammunition which shoots ell in YOUR firearm--write down the "lot number" off the inside of the end flap on the box. Try to find this same lot number and purchase all you can afford. As long as you use this same lot number you can count on your groups.

Corey: Nice job on the video. I am an old dude, I have not shot match for about 50 years and a lot has changed. I have one comment regarding your choice of barrel, if I understand what you said correctly, "why would anyone purchase a barrel which a live round could not be ejected?" Maybe I am not understanding something, but that sounds like a really unsafe choice. Please comment. (note: not as unsafe as the dude I saw placing his barrel down in the grass,...)

😊 thanks good entertainment...find a round that gives you a small standard deviation and then spend $15 and buy a limb saver barrel tuner and try that… Every barrel is different because of the chambering and resonance.your best round in your RPR will not shoot good in the guy who’s shooting beside you RPR. There is also a trick with aluminum tape to bed the recoil lug in your RPR. I have a 452 that is about seven or eight years old and other than the first two days it has never fired anything other than SK standard… Because it works and I just don’t change brands once I find something that works.Struggling is learning… The more you learn the less you struggle!

@@coreyd1474 ...my grandson has the RPRF and I played with it for a long time before it started to shoot consistently...the target rifles i use have tuners machined into the barrel. I use lead only bullets under 1100 ft/sec, clean only with a dry swab, use the limbsaver, and i sort the ammo by rim thickness...alot of extra work but I do shoot very good groups on occasion. I am 70 now so the groups aren't what they used to be....but I did manage to get a couple of groupings under 1/4" at 100M this year...I have access to a 100M indoor/underground range once a week and I impressed all my buddies with how well the ruger is shooting. Because of the inconsistent nature of the ammo that is the biggest battle...Hope all goes well and keep us updated!
