At 10:56 KEVIN is about to say how his motorcycle performance was "dogging out" and that it was 19 years ago, and this video is 10 months old now, (01/06/25) so 20 years ago!!! That means it happened in 2005!!! I had thought you guys said the trouble started with the 2007 model year. Please explain! And thank you for your diligence working out these solutions for the H-D owners!!!!! You're running a much needed organization!!!

That bike I was talking about was a 2005 Road King with a 88 CI Twin Cam in it. The complete engine reman was in 2006. While the engines got very much hotter from the factory beginning in 2007, that is not to say that there were not heat challenges prior to then. Great to hear you are finding the parts and videos useful, thank you for the kind words. KP

Another great video by Kevin and Dwayne. I believe you're quoting a comment I made on the HD Forum LOL....I had a hell of a time getting the engine to cool down. Even after all the mods I did, that y'all recommended starting with the least expensive. Bought the oil dip stick to track the oil temp then remove the right side leg protector (?) so the wind would blow through, deflector wings, tank lift, EBS, air cleaner, nothing seemed to work. Then the oil filter relocation kit, and finally the oil cooler did the trick. This on a 2020 tri-glide. with a Feuling 472 cam kit. Living in the Arizona desert where riding temps regularly exceed 105, one needs to do everything possible to keep this sucker cool. We'll see what happens here in a month or so. when the temps really go up :)

Yes, it was your comment that spurred the video. Glad you got the temps down, hopefully it is enough for the brutal heat you all get out there. If not, there are still some things you can do...but best for the wallet to only do as much as is needed for your circumstances. Thanks for the comment, AND the idea for the video. 👍😎👍 KP

My harley runs oil Temps @ 178° to 215° so I hope people know it is possible but I had to do a few things like oil filter re locator, one cooling fin off (Left side) raise the gas tank 1.5 inches and a full stage one with V&H 2 into 1 pipes big sucker air filter and a full stage 2 cam kit 475. That is the full kit wit cam plate, lifters, Adjustable push Rods, high flow oil pump, tappet cuffs, the whole deal

I have a 21 road glide special and notice more heat and a spark knock and no matter what I tune it doesn’t go away. 13000 miles and air filter is overly oily so I have purchased the external breather catch can kit from y’all. Next step is cleaning cylinders and installing the kit I hope this helps. Taking what y’all say $134 is not a bad start.

You may want to check the oil level on your bike with it spitting that much oil it may be over filled. Here is a link to a video on Harley Oil Levels that you may find interesting/helpful as well - kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5-2mZ6flLyYgpI You may also consider trying a leak down test to check the health of your bike. If it is spitting that much oil it could be over filled with oil or you could have another issue. A leak down test can help you determine if there is a bigger issue. You can see a video on how to do a leak down test at this link - kzbin.info/www/bejne/naDNoaeqj7adgc0 Of course an EBS will be a great addition to the longevity of your bike and will catch any oil carry over. You may want to take a look at the new graphite heat sinks that are being used in computers and IC Chip cooling. Decades ago I had a Sportster with the oil filter up front and placed an aluminum finned wrap around it held on with pressure by a large hose clamp. I saw a 10 degree decrease in oil temp and a lower engine temp consistently. I am thinking of trying to wrap and hold against my oil tank some of this new black graphite heat sink sheets and see how it works.

I ride a 2010 triglide I sent you a few texts in the past few months. I've tried a lot of the free things , and cheap things like moving the coil, the left thigh guard and an oil cooler. I just had to replace the rear head gasket due to getting hot. I'm a pretty aggressive rider . I checked out the Jim force flow fans today. I'm trying to decide on what brand jug fans. I don't have the fork fins and moving the oil filter won't help. The lower faring won't allow it. I did change the filter type tho. It's got a stage two on it. When the head gasket was replace the cylinder and head looked good, low carbon build-up.

Allen, I am so sorry you are having issues with your Trike. The very best advice we have is to follow this video that you are commenting on. The above video is to be used in conjunction with the list seen at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/why-how-to-cool-down-your-twin-cam-engine-part-ii-dk-cl-tc-dn-2.htm You can do an oil filter relocation, which will help by lowering oil temps by about 8-10 F. You can see the one that fits your 2010 Trike at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/cool-n-clean-oil-filter-relocation-kit-for-harleytrikes-dk-cnc-ofr-tri.htm Since you have a Stage II, the tune is even more important to be correct, so I would pay careful attention to make sure it is a good tune for whatever cams you used. The other thing to check is a leak-down test, you can see a video on that at this link- kzbin.info/www/bejne/naDNoaeqj7adgc0 I hope that some of this advice helps you find the problem and get it fixed! Have you guys looked at the effect that a road glide fairing spoiler has on cooling the engine ? I have watched a few of your videos and picked up some good tips. But not sure I have saw you guys mention these spoilers
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 5 ай бұрын
They can look really nice. Unfortunately they block some of the air to the engine and the engine will run hotter with them...in the 10-15 degree area. IF you have done other things to cool the engine down, then you can still achieve optimum temps, even with the fairing spoiler. We have a list of the various things you can do at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/why-how-to-cool-down-your-twin-cam-engine-part-ii-dk-cl-tc-dn-2.htm Always feel free to email or call with any questions. I was curious what people thought of the harley cool flow fan for reducing heat? Thanks
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 10 ай бұрын
Just like the EITMS, the Cool Flow Fan is not designed to cool down the engine. It is designed to reduce the heat radiating out to the rider and passenger. Here is a video that explains the EITMS by a Harley Store Manager- kzbin.info/www/bejne/imPEeGVuac52gcU Here is what Harley Corporate says on their website about the Cool Flow Fan- "The CoolFlow Fan Kit keeps the riders comfortable by pulling air away from the rear cylinder and exhaust pipe, and directing it toward the ground." They also say- "The fan will help pull air from the front of the engine to the back of the bike. Its not designed to help cool off the rear exhaust pipe but it will help get air moving around the engine." And a Customer asked Harley Corporate this question- "Does the cool flow fan cool the motor as well as the rider?" Harley answered "the CoolFlow Fan Kit keeps the riders comfortable by pulling air away from the rear cylinder and exhaust pipe, and directing it toward the ground." There are many more Q&A's like this...but the bottom line is that the Cool Flow Fan does not cool down the engine, it just reduces the heat that the rider and passenger feel. To actually cool down the engine, check out our written report at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/why-how-to-cool-down-the-twin-cam-engine-part-i-dk-cl-tc-dn-1.htm And our video series on the subject at this link- kzbin.info/aero/PLb3bvZgbH92_3s-2vv63QggFJ3nteFd_C All that said, using the ForceFlow fan to cool the engine, and then the Cool Flow Fan to help reduce radiating heat, they will compliment each other. Always feel free to email or call with any questions. Support@DKCustomProducts.com 662-252-8828 Thanks for commenting! MB

I am not sure what bike you have, but you may want to consider trying the Cooling Deflector Wings. They help with cooling the engine and deflecting the wind from you to the engine which results in less buffeting. The fork fangs block the wind to your engine and does not help with cooling down the bike. I would like to know why don't Harley install decent cam plate and oil pump. I just purchased a 2021 Fatboy M8 with 17,000 k's and I only did 300 k's and there was no oil on the dipstick. It blew blue smoke every time I started it and it's now back at Harley which they haven't told me what the issue is but they are waiting on Harley to approve what ever it is before they can fix it. It has been over a week since they picked it up. Any ideas what it could be?
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching our videos. We cannot answer Why Harley does what they do, that is something to ask them (Yes, I know, you will not get a satisfactory answer). We can only speculate. Harley does seem to have a pattern of releasing a new engine variation and then refining it over the next 2-3 years based on Customer feedback/experiences. The above is the best answer we can give to your first question. Regarding your second question... Without the bike in front of us to be able to look at it, it is very difficult to say why there was no oil on the dipstick and why it is blowing blue smoke on start up. It is possible (can't say with certainty, since the bike is not in front of us) that the cylinder or rings, or both, are compromised. That would explain burning thru the oil and seeing some blue smoke. Also, there have been some bad batches of cylinders from the factory, so that makes the possibility even stronger. Hope the Dealership gets back to you soon and you get it resolved satisfactorily, so you can get back in the wind. Thanks for commenting! MB

What if any effect would moving the horn on my 18 FLTRX have on my engine temps? Have you guys played around with a diverter in it's place, or just the fan? Mostly I don't like the look of the damn thing. But I don't want to do anything that would heat me back up
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 8 ай бұрын
It doesn’t make a notable difference to just remove it. It’s not really in a location that compromises air flow and the temp sensor is on the other side of the engine. A fan blows thru the cylinders but the horn isn’t necessary a detriment to air flow. If you just don’t like the look of it, you can always go with a smaller horn up front. It would be very interesting to see the wind flow getting to the oil cooler behind the front tire. I dont know for sure, but I suspect the cooler is NOT getting the maximum air flow it should. I have not seen any wind tunnel test, but I do know the Harley bagger race bike moved the radiator into the front fairing for MORE and better airflow.

We have Not done any wind tunnel tests for the oil cooler behind the front tire/fender. However, we Have done testing where the exact same oil cooler, when moved from the location behind the front tire/fender to be mounted on the front downtube, out in the wind much better, will result in 15-25 F cooler oil. My 03 Heritage Softail Classic has the V-Twin 88 on her and within minutes of riding,she’s beyond hot,even running on the highway the heat is ridiculous,I may not be the smartest biker,but I do all my maintenance myself but is there anything you can suggest for her?

Yes, we have a list at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/why-how-to-cool-down-the-twin-cam-engine-part-i-dk-cl-tc-dn-1.htm I would read the info there, and then start at the top of the list (on page 2) and work my way down until the bike is at a temperature you are comfortable with.. You always talk about Harleys running hot. What about evo Sportsters?
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 11 ай бұрын
Sportys do not have a heat problem like the Twin Cams and M8's. Every now and then we run across a Sporty that is running a bit hot, but not very often. If you look at the 1:20 mark in this video, you will see the optimum oil and engine temps for Sportsters. Most of them run there without any assistance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qIiylYSFqampbKM KP

Off topic...how do you keep your beard from blowing up in your face? I can't find a comfortable way of doing it myself lol.

Nice beard you got going in your photo. I use 4 or 5 hair ties, and they do a pretty good job. 👍 KP

Does anyone make a under triple tree deflector for the 2023 Streetbob models similar to what you can get for the touring models?...I run my Streetbob with a 14 inch detachable windshield but the wind seems to still blow up underneath...I use one of those triple tree deflectors on my Roadking and it seems to make a bit of a difference.@@DKCustomProducts

The beard in the face struggle is real...if you guys ever invent something to divert more of the air to the engine rather than blowing the beard up in my face I will buy the product...been struggling for years.@@DKCustomProducts

I wear a modular full face and the beard still blows up infront of my fullface. Hair ties pull at my beard...I have even worn neck tubes with my beard tucked up underneath...not bad when the weather is cooler...when it gets hot out it's a killer. I've had the beard for so many years I don't want to shave it down.@@sanderpena

Cold air intake is an important factor in making more power, but, by no means the only thing needed to get to optimum temps, which equal more power and long term reliability. KP

I finally found a way to beat the HD heat, I bought a Challenger.

I am not sure if you are talking about the car or an Indian, but Indians have the same heat issues. There are just less of them out there so it isn't talked about as much. Different Strokes for Different Folks. Millions of us are very Happy with our Harley's. 👍😎👍MB

@@DKCustomProducts I’ve never had an issue with any HD I’ve owned. Traded my ultra for the Indian Challenger because I wanted a better touring bike (liquid cooled) waited to long for HD to get out of the dark ages.

When we do shorter videos and do not cover all the points/rabbit holes then we get asked questions. Many folks want to know everything there is to know (what is down each rabbit hole) about their Harley. For those that want just the short version, we have over 300 "shorts" which can be seen at this link- www.youtube.com/@DKCustomProducts/shorts 👍😎👍 KP

plethoricly speaking
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 3 күн бұрын
The phrase "plethorically speaking" isn't standard English, but it seems to be a playful or creative construction around the word "plethoric," which means an abundance or excess of something. If we interpret "plethorically speaking" in this context, it could mean speaking or discussing something in terms of its abundance or excess. For example, if someone said, "Plethorically speaking, we have too many options for dinner tonight," they would be commenting on the excessive number of choices available. However, without further context, this interpretation is speculative, as the phrase isn't commonly used or recognized in standard language. KP
