Valter Longo is just brilliant. Everything he says makes sense. Even the weak comment from the host about „giving up coffee would be difficult“ was met with such an even and intelligent response. I could listen to him all day.

I've done FMD several times with good success. What appeals to me is the regenerative aspects- killing of old cells (and possibley senecent cells), and activating repair with stem cells, and greater autophagy. But more work need to be done to clarify the extent to whcih any of these processes happens. In my blood tests, I've seen immediate improvement in liver makerts like AST and ALT,. Also drops in blood pressure and some fat loss, hopefully visceral.

Hi Peter, thanks for sharing, that is very helpful and great to see the good results. Was sticking to the diet for the full five days difficult? Anecdotally eating a small amount each day may be harder than not eating at all.

@@ModernHealthspan Yes, getting to day 5 was a stretch. But as I do not eat SAD and do TRE my guess is that I activate the relevant pathways earlier than trial participants. Once I designed my own FMD by reverse engineering the macro amounts and using my own plant based foods it was easier as I was able to get more fiber yet still get to the same low glucose levels and reach the same ketones levels. The standard FMD one buys is one size for everyone regardless of body mass. The patent gives data on in terms of macros per Kg body mass, which to me seems the way to go for large and small people if one wants to devise their own diet. In the early days I woyld have tried water fasting at TrueNorth in California as they have been doing medically assisted water fasting for decades but never have. They have some great anectodal success stories and a number of publications including one in the BMJ on cancer regression with a 3 week water fast.

I ve done 3 rounds of Prolon FMD, and they had unexpected effects good ones - - after the first one for some reason, I felt more compelled to look at juicy foods - - it was like water content was a factor in my consideration of what to eat, which increased my fruit intake and decreased my dry snack food intake.

Thx Richard for this interesting video. The impact of sleep, diet and a fasting regimen customized to the age , condition and lifestyle of the individual is perhaps more important than exercise , especially for elderly people.

Hi Abdelilah, thanks for sharing. I would also put them in that order but hopefully it is not an either/or but an and!

Is FMD available world wide? If one has the protocol, a scale and nutrition summing Ap or dB, YES.

Great interview, thank you! Seems doFMD once a while cleansing out some gabbage in the body is a good idea!

Hi Sparkling, thanks. Yes it should give the system an opportunity to reset.

Running over 50 miles a week is pretty common, I have a large circle of friends who do so. Yes, we recognize that we are odd, but it is how we like to spend some of our time. Personally, I run about 3,000 miles per year and have for a while. I am particularly interested in how the FMD regimen might be integrated with activity habits like mine. Would the calorie allowance increase (carbohydrates and fats) to cover the additional expenditures? I would think I might cut back to 40 miles per week and limit intensity (easy aerobic only) for the duration of the fast.

Uh oh … I am doing (or trying) the 16 fast / 8 eating schedule but I was drinking LOTS of coffee … lol. Can "one coffee" be one pot of coffee? I’ll have to think about this …
@ModernHealthspan3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jessica, thanks for your and Paul's comments. I am not sure what the prohibition of coffee is based on (I probably should have asked). I have not tried the FMD but in my 16/8 days I certainly drink coffee, I am with Paul in that it stops me feeling hungry and helps get through "its breakfast time" expectation of my stomach.

@Paul Wolf Thanks for sharing. How often do you have a berberine day? Is that once per week?

People have lost over 100 lbs on the Carnivore diet. Insulin goes up when you eat carbs. Insulin stores fat.

The vegan mimicking diet: you eat vegan since vegans do better with heart disease and cancer, but since they break bones twice as easy as meat eaters, you go to Burger King a couple times a month and force down a whopper.
@ModernHealthspan3 жыл бұрын
Hi Gaby, thanks for your comment. Except it should be low mercury fish rather than a Burger King whopper.
@gabymalembe3 жыл бұрын
Has to be Burger King: Compared with meat eaters and after adjustment for socio-economic factors, lifestyle confounders, and body mass index (BMI), the risks of hip fracture were higher in fish eaters (hazard ratio 1.26; 95% CI 1.02-1.54), vegetarians (1.25; 1.04-1.50), and vegans (2.31; 1.66-3.22), equivalent to rate differences of 2.9 (0.6-5.7), 2.9 (0.9-5.2), and 14.9 (7.9-24.5) more cases for every 1000 people over 10 years, respectively.

According to Dr. Gregers research, the finding was that they may break bones during a fall because they have much less fat padding than meat eaters do. Not because the bones themselves are more fragile. So yes, if an obese meat eater and a lean plant eater fall, the one wearing the fat suit likely is more protected.
