Very well edited and described, props to good workmanship!

I know this is an older video, and I'm not sure you will see this, but my residence has a tar and gravel roof and I need to add a new layer of something. Can I scrape it like you did and apply a sealer or tar to waterproof it? I have a couple of small leaks in it. The roof has a slight pitch. It's either a 2/12 or 3/12 pitch.

Roof cement or even coating may work well. If you're going to coat, just stay with coating products on top of the coating. If you're going to stay with roofing cement, stay with asphalt products. It will help continue to stitch together.

Does this work on a dead flat roof? I have an old school our nonprofit has purchased and we looking to do the work ourselves. The roof is concrete panels over concrete and steel structure. Right now it appears the seams were sealed with a tar product, asphalt, tar and rock. We are going to rent a machine for removing the tar and rock. So, I am trying to learn what our options are for replacement.

It should work fine. Always better to have a little slope like 1/8" or 1/4" per foot, but sometimes it is just flat. As long as there is little to no standing water, it will be good.

This is what i got a old tar and gravel roof ive been looking options can you use a other layer of paper and then a torch down cap
@PracticalRoofingConcepts5 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, torchdown will work, but I think adhering the modified cap sheet by cold process goes better with the old tar and gravel. Asphalt primer is key.

I just read your reply again. I would not cover the old tar and gravel with paper or cover the tie in with paper. If there is wood exposed, then tie in the dry in of that wood with the existing tar and gravel roof underneath to get a sidelap. Then you can torch or cold process right to the spudded and primed tar and gravel roof. Usually a tie in of at least 6" or more will work. If you cover that with paper, it will not perform as you want it to because then there is access for water to run under the paper and more opportunity to get under. In general, the only reason you are going over or tying in is to salvage the roof. Replacing the entire roof is the right option, but is not always the immediate desire in most cases. If you notice in this video the only paper that was put down was over exposed wood. We spudded the area and then primed and covered with cap sheet. Cap sheet by itself is a built up system in a roll form. Hopefully this makes sense.

@@PracticalRoofingConcepts thanks for the reply I saw another one of your videos after where u show the material I have a low slope roof to do but im in ny and its well under 45degrees do u know of any adhesives that will be ok to use in cold weather ?
@PracticalRoofingConcepts6 жыл бұрын
Manufacturers make products for distribution to different areas. You should be able to find materials for you area in your area that will work with the colder climates. I am down south and everything is geared for warmer climate.

And a spud bar works way better than a flooring scraper,just saying

Agreed, also use a tear off shovel backwards - the flat kind

You know you done a good days work when you have spudded a roof for 6 hours then put on a roof for the next 4 hours
