I'VE BEEN PLAYING THAT WAY FOR YEARS BUT I NEVER KNEW THAT WAS CALLED PHRASING, THANKS, IT'S JUST LIKE ARPEGGIOS AND SCALES I PLAY THEM, BUT I DON'T KNOW THE NAMES OF THEM.55 years of playing guitar, and I'm still learning, what names are, like triads, I've been playing those for over 40 years I never knew they were called triads.. but I developed a fantastic ear...

A good ear is just as important as all that other stuff. Try to set a goal for one month or a few months from now and have a section memorized. And then more long-term goals and try to reach those. It is hard the older we get, but you won’t regret it.Thank you Jim 👍

There are some good guitar teachers on KZbin, but everytime time I tune in to this channel I learn something useful or am reminded of a concept I may have forgotten the importance of. You are consistently providing great teaching and techniques. I'm 60, disabled and can't do much physically. Along with my family, 2 of the greatest passions of my life have been that Book you have open on that table and that instrument you have in your hand. I appreciate what you're doing on this channel. You have the gift of making simple what many people complicate, and I'm glad to see your subscribers continuing to rise. You are an inspiration, a great player and a great example. Thanks for what you're doing here. I feel a kindred spirit with you.

I spent far too many years just flying around the pentatonic scales, thinking I sounded great! There was no melodic structure at all to my playing. It’s a 50th anniversary strat that I bought used. It was already beat up. So I decided to strip it down. As I did, the wood started getting this wild look. Because of all the wear. So I decided just to tint some stain slightly with some yellow and red. It definitely looks wild! I love the guitar, though it has stainless steel frets. And custom shop pick ups. So it’s a player guitar for sure. Thanks for checking out the video man.👍

Thanks Rusty. Just my opinion but I have found teaching my 11 year old nephew has made me a better player. I really have to think about what I teach him and analyse things, like why something sounds good or how to connect everything. My fav quote about music comes from Keith Richards, "if it sounds good play it, if it doesn't, don't play it". Take care, Rusty.

KZbin knows I watch/ subscribe to 15 guitar player channels so they sent me a notification to watch and, I've been playin' on and off (right now I'm laid up so ..off) again for decades. I'm just sponging up 🎸 related stuff until I can practically apply it. I knew most of this but, not all of it yet. I still haven't memorized the notes on the fretboard or triads but it's videos like yours that keep me in touch with the instrument so when I'm able to play I'll know what to practice. I can jam in the pentatonic scales but, triad's, modes and basic theory are things I'll need to work on. So thanks man, Iook forward to seeing you more. I'll subscribe to your channel. 1 more can't hurt right?
@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel! If you can jam with the pentatonic scales you’re probably already using triads, and Chord tones in your solo. You just don’t know it YET! I appreciate your feedback Stan! Keep rockin buddy 🤛

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I found portions of your teachings to be familiar; things I know and play but, I play what sounds good in a given key, and resolve back to the root , use double stops but, as you said I've got a limited idea of where the notes are across the fretboard. Meaning I can't just play every G note without counting or comparing but, I'm not finished learning like any of us so I'd like to improve like any of us right . I appreciate you putting it out there. I enjoyed your passionate, humble and enthusiastic approach to teaching guitar. Keep up the good work and I'll be watching 🤜

@rustysguitar1
@rustysguitar1 Жыл бұрын
Hey Michael, I will definitely expand on this topic because it is so important. In this video, I did a super slow breakdown. Calling out the notes, fret numbers, and what string. Tabs would make it easier to play through the notes, but it definitely will not help the information sink in. I don’t use tabs for that reason. Playing the right notes is only a small part of playing the guitar. Thanks man 👍
