It is fascinating to compare original Bach works for strings with guitar arrangements, especially the Chaconne and numerous partitas and suites. I often use the violin with my students as a reference point for precise left hand placement...not to depend on frets only.

That's very interesting, because I reference to the guitar to explain to students how half steps get closer as the position gets higher.
