I think it also very important to evaluate the moral and ethical impact of any action and result.

Yeah, that's what I find comedic about this philosophical movement: It ends up undermining its own point of practicality.

@@Synodalian I'm studying pragmatism too (communications theory), I'm not that well educated yet but it has always seemed to me that pragmatism, when you actually get to the root of it, it's basically positivism again 😅

Logic and conscious thought is brought rise through irrational decisions. We didn’t choose to be born for example. So really logic and conscious thinking is a subset of irrational behaviors, but these types of thoughts bring rise to what we deem as important in justifying even if we can’t get to a root cause for why an action is carried out through strictly logic. But by that idea being more important by logically justifying it, then it may be practical. It’s more of a network of reasons which make it practical rather than deducing individual reasons into a single thing. It could be argued a larger network of justifying reasons to perform an action implies a greater importance for such a thing. If you look at the reasons more on an individual basis rather than as a network, then those reasons rely on weaker and weaker axioms progressively. The foundation of all reasons is either emotion or irrationality which can deem something as practical rather thanthe logic itself. The logic only strengthens the weights between how these emotions hold together as a whole.

Hi reader(s)! I am currently studying the difference between research and evaluation. What do you think the biggest distinguishing factor of research and evaluation is? How do you define research? How do you define evaluation?
@MaestroGamester
@MaestroGamester 2 жыл бұрын
Research focuses on empirical questions like - why is the sky blue? or does vaping cause cancer? Where as, an evaluation study tends to focus on qualitative questions that require comparative judgements like - are tall people happier? what is the most popular food category? While both have things in common (like collecting data), a good way to distinguish the two is: research tries to prove something while evaluation tries to improve something.

Let’s say you have the desire to get rich. But other people tell you that that is a morally “wrong” desire. But...if you look at natural phenomena you’ll see that ALL things seek a higher state of living...which is in essence the desire to be rich. So in this sense...pragmatism is the reliance on rational observance via based on the most natural state of gaining said information...which is via observation of nature.

@@optimusprimum yeah I'm not feeling that in totality.....just NoT. The KeY take away for me is maybe in a word "ACTioN" .....pragmatism yields ACTioN at the EOD yes ?? AS to money if that is your get RiCH take. Where in nature are ya seeing this ? So nature is seeking higher state of living, could you give a few examples of this DESIRE for RICHNESS your seeing to a HIGHER STATE of living .....[really]??

@alfonstabz9741 Жыл бұрын
@@optimusprimum I disagree being rich is not the equivalence of higher state with regards to human desire. Yes my be being rich is a tool to achieve human desire. But not at all times sometimes being rich brings insecurity, worries and greed.! The higher things for humanity is peace and happiness not wealth.

You are aiming a gun at someone who is also aiming their gun at you. What is your response? The pragmatic option is to shoot before that person kills you rather than risking death by attempting to negotiate.

You can't say the birthplace of pragmatism was the US as you make it seem because the US is merely a new country. Pragmatism itself is just a product of human behavior.
