Thanks for the shout out. Very good review. I do get seeds in but not many, most of them come out as satsuma but some do come out as a cross of some kind, I know this since I got one to sprout this year and it has tri leafs and I did not have anything else flowing at the same time.
@themulberriesАй бұрын
@@sweethomealabamahomestead4504 Thank you! That's really fascinating it had trifoliate leaves despite no others blooming... I would definitely grow those out to a fruiting age. I've heard reports of some chimeras even being passed onto seedling generations but I'm not sure in this case.
@sweethomealabamahomestead4504Ай бұрын
@@themulberries I'm going to try and grow all the seeds I get off of the Prague. I would also like to test the cold hardness of the ones that look just like satsuma because they could be more cold hardy then other satsuma. I'll keep the videos coming on these seedlings and if I get more to sprout this year you might want to try one?
@themulberriesАй бұрын
@@sweethomealabamahomestead4504 Yes of course! The trifoliate ones sound the most interesting, and I'll germinate the few seeds I obtained and see what comes up. I feel like an entire case study could be dedicated to Prague.

Wow Prague Chimera made the list! Yup, highly anticipated to hear more about it. Prague may be one of the hardest citrus to get, never heard of anyone selling trees, just cuttings. I know a citrus fiend of a guy in Texas that would love to get Prague but due to citrus quarantine import reasons they've been grumpy about how its even more difficult to get them in CA/TX/FL. Don't the Prague trees look kinda funky like poncirus? Kind of an ugly tree? I still want a couple just for a shot at sweet citrus in a cold hardy citrus zone. Thanks again for all the effort.
@themulberriesАй бұрын
It's very hard to acquire, and Stan McKenzie sold out of them this year. I'm propagating as many as I can for this coming season so hopefully I have a good amount to offer. Getting Prague into Texas legally will be impossible unfortunately, but I know some people will buy the trees outside their state and drive them in. Prague trees look even funkier than Poncirus! They grow in a somewhat weeping habit and their growth can look like it is fighting between being Poncirus or Satsuma. They can definitely be ugly and sparse trees, but they bloom prolifically and look more charming with some fruit in them. It's definitely the best shot at a sweet citrus in a colder zone. I don't know its lower limit but it must be around 0°F at least.

@@themulberries Incredible. Thanks for the additional details. I'll contact Stan and see if I can get on a list for 4 trees. If you are willing I ask the same from you -- I am interested. I live in Washington State where I could legally receive citrus shipments.

@@technoendo I should have enough trees assuming everything works out. I won't be able to promise anything this early, but I will definitely keep you in mind closer to the Spring! If you get the chance to graft it, be very patient, it's very slow to wake up compared to many other varieties.

Satsumas can show green on the outside and be fully ripe, looks like the Prague is peak ripe at this color if you found them be almost insipid with low acid + very sweet. Sounds like I can pick mine a little earlier depending on if there is a hard frost in the forecast since I prefer acidic fruit :D. Happy that I chose Bishop and Prague over the other citrandarins although they do have good potential as juicing for ades like you mentioned. I wonder if the citrandarin juice becomes bitter if left standing like some orange juices are known to do?
@themulberriesАй бұрын
@@raregrowsNJ I'm right there with you my friend, my wife and I both prefer our fruit on the tarter side, so I wouldn't mind picking mine sooner either! Bishop and Prague are definitely some of the best, and I'm not sure about the juice actually, that would make an interesting experiment.

@@MichaelRay380 Unfortunately you may not be able to find Bishop and Prague plants at this time, but scion wood is more likely. I'm grafting out plants for this Spring.

@ would you be the only scion source that you’re aware of? I also have questions about poncirus+, is it the same situation as bishop and Prague? And would you say it’s just as hardy as any other trifoliate, maybe -5 or -10?
@themulberriesАй бұрын
@@MichaelRay380 Scions are easier to come by, Stan McKenzie should have Prague scions and you can request the others on the tropical fruit forum. Poncirus Plus shows no indication of being any less hardy than other trifoliate oranges, which could be anywhere between -10°F and -20°F.
