Prairie 360 Carb Removal/Clean

As a guy who has worked on a LOT of small engines, and the only thing I would argue with you about: use SOMETHING to ream out the pilot jet and main jet (I prefer a small guitar string or a precision drill bit.) Sometimes jets will NOT come clean with carb cleaner and compressed air, and it's VERY FRUSTRATING to reinstall a carburetor and have the jets still give you headaches. That's my 2 cents, but I enjoyed the video. I learned a lot!

I have one that idles real high on choke but dies if removed, but only in cold weather. When in spring or summer use runs and idles fine. No matter how warm the engine gets in cold weather same problem, got any thoughts?

ok so first off, i would pull the spark plug and see what it looks like. these machines seem to come with a lean air/fuel ratio. i actually got a bigger main jet for this machine after i did this video. made a huge difference. something else to check is the valve lash, just to make sure they are in spec.

I’m having a hard time keeping mine running and it takes for ever to be able to take choke off then it barely wants to idle. Brand new carb.

is the carb an oem carb? or is it an amazon/ eBay special off brand one?

Aftermarket ebay. But it always ran like that.

ok so these models come with pretty lean from the factory. you might want to up the jets a little and see if that helps you clear up the running issue.. this one did the same thing until i bumped up the main jet a couple spots and adjusted the air fuel screw a little.

We upped the jets as I had a larger jet on the original carb. So I’ll adjust the idle screw with the knob. Do I need to adjust the pilot screw also?

ok so when doing any of these changes, the idle screw really shouldn't need to be adjusted all that much. the main jet is from, lets say mid to WOT, so that size shouldn't effect idling. the pilot jet will. i dont remember the factory size. but lets say its a 35.. throwing a 37 in should help richen it up. if you want to do a quick adjustment, youll have to screw OUT the air/fuel screw under the carb. usually they are 1.5- 2.5 turns out. turning it to 3 will richen it up as well. anything passed that wont do much and youll need a new bigger pilot jet.

Nice found a 06 sportsman 500 for $300 they are really easy to fix took me $100 in parts cleaned carb sold it for 3k 😂

there isnt one on this quad. but you can put a inline filter on the line coming it 👍

So the hose on the bottom of the carb was broken on mine and wasn’t attached to anything does anyone know where it attaches or if it does

@Wyatt-jy8sg the carbs have a rubber line on the bottom for the over flow. It's a safety feature you could say. So if the float sticks... it'll leak the gas through there and not into the engine. It just runs down beside/below the engine, so it leaks in the ground. Not on the engine.

@Wyatt-jy8sg yes you can give this a shot. Take the carb apart. Pull the floats out, and the float needle. Clean it really well and put it back in. If it still leaks you can try to adjust the float and see if it stops leaks. But adjusting it can cause other issues. I'd recommend just buying a new needle and seat if cleaning it doesn't fix the issue.

The bottom hose what is that for

the bottom line from the "bowl"... that is there for the fuel to leak through if the float isnt working correctly. instead of gas leaking into the airbox or down the cylinder....it just leaks out onto the floor

@Evan Winship were you able to see if your valve lash was in spec? i hate telling people to buy things.. but you could try and get a compression gauge at Harbor Freight. you would be able to tell from there if youre having problems

gotcha. ok well ya definitely something going on. you might have to pull the head off and look it over unfortunately
