More like soft millennial parenting behaviour. Fatherless households were also common with millennials in the 90’s and things weren’t nearly as screwed up back then as it is today. Parents now are just 10-15 years behind in an authoritative figure. The kids and parents almost match as friends these days.

@@kenfern2259 That’s what I mean. The parents these days can’t act like parents. They are too soft because it’s almost like they are too shy to show an authoritative figure or don’t know how and can’t be authoritative themselves. Trust me. I know this because I’m openly admitting to you as a guilty millennial that I myself would have a hard time showing toughness as a parent.

Right? If two derailments caused this much havoc then can you imagine if there was an organized attack to hit multiple trains on all lines at once? The professor is right about this system being outdated; I don't see any situation to where a train needs to come to a full stop apart from all of the conductors on that train going unconscious, which is pretty much impossible.

Why are kids riding the subway without their parents and why aren’t they being appropriately punished. The last few years I worked, I had to stop taking the subway into Manhattan because the service was so unreliable. I would get messages from the MTA about someone who had pulled the emergency brake or there had been disruptive people on the train. With my job, I had to get there on time. I couldn’t afford to be stuck in a subway tunnel somewhere. It cost me a fortune but I went to work in a taxi instead. At least I had the peace of mind of knowing I’d get there on time and I didn’t have to deal with any subway drama. Pulling the emergency brake should NOT be referred to as a “prank”. It’s not - it’s dangerous and disruptive.

Fox 5, shame on you. This is intentionally misleading. The 1 train derailment was due to human error of an empty train being on the wrong track. The derailment was NOT caused by pulling the emergency break. The empty train (had the break pulled previously) was being moved. “Pranksters” did not cause the derailment.
@FentonLounge
@FentonLounge 7 ай бұрын
It's not misleading .. it's a part of the story . After they pulled several emergency brakes .. they were able to reset all but one train car.. this would eventually lead to a decision to push the disabled train out from the rear of the inoperable train which ultimately led to the crash . Great job fox News 👏. This fills in parts of the story missed by ABC7
@hanna__taylor
@hanna__taylor 7 ай бұрын
@@FentonLounge no it didn’t lead to the crash. It got pulled and later the drivers taking it back to the depot made a mistake and went the wrong way. That’s what happened. The brake being pulled wasn’t the cause. It was just an extraneous detail, uncorrelated.

Having worked for NYCT for 25 years as train crew in several capacities, this has been an ongoing problem that has never been resolved and will continue to be an ongoing problem for employees and a hazard to the riding public. The newer trains have helped resolve some of this problem but the older R 46/R62 / R68 cars could be retrofited with the new braking system but that money will be wasted since those units are scheduled to be discontinued in service as they are over 40 years old and will be replaced with new equipment that has been purchased. MTA will not waste the the time and money so this issue will continue with more incidents in the system.

This is what happens when no consequences are put to place. Especially when they go so lightly towards punishing teens who are fully aware of what they're doing, and who are fully aware that there are little to no consequences to their actions so they'll keep doing it. The fact that they blame it on the subway system instead of the ones who commit it says a lot about how bad things has gotten. This shouldn't even have to be addressed or ever happen in the first place if there was more consequences towards crimes.

It doesn't stop the train. If the train is already stopped, someone just pushes it back in and the train is good to go.
