Nice! I cycled up Mt. Palomar all the way up to the observatory at the top in November 2019. That ride back down is insane! I am a climber, not a descender. So, I tapped my brakes all the way down. ;)
@bovax62593 жыл бұрын
I had to tap my brakes a lot because I overcooked a few turns. Bad to flow into on coming lanes on a NON closed roadway. Awesome decent for me even if it doesn't hold water to what this dude can do. :))

I don't even think people realize what SAFA actually brings to the table. He's literally bringing a side of cycling that is never seen to the spotlight. The side of just getting out. With your buddies and shredding. No mention of training regiments, weighing food, just the pure passion for riding bikes. THANK YOU SAF !💥🎉🌡️

Fantastic descent, as usual! You are one of my biggest inspirations for getting out on my bike and climbing the mountains around the Santa Barbara area and then descending to get that adrenaline rush (not going as fast obviously but it still feels like it 😄. Would love to see you do a Descent disciples video in Santa Barbara someday, either on San Marcos or Gibraltar. I really liked the videos that you filmed on San Marcos road and it would be great to someone push one of those descents to the limits

That road was ridiculously bumpy in the summer when I went up and those cattle grates (ex: 8:47) look way bigger and sketchier in person. This video does not show the fully difficulty of this run at all, insane!

I live in San Diego and do this climb/descent all the time. I know the speed "I" take those corners and know what it feels like, and he's taking them at least 2x faster! Amazing. Btw they've since repaved the whole top half of the mountain, and it's perfectly smooth. Come back and do it again!

For maximum speed, have you done the descent from Empire Pass into Park City, Utah? There is a straight -10% mile-long chute at 8,000' elevation. The top times are in excess of 70 mph avg for the segment with peak speed approaching 90! While that part isn't technical, the rest of the 4 mile descent is quite convoluted. Check it out!

Love Palomar. Kinda cheating not climbing it though first :) From the start I was thinking oh god look out for the cow grates! There’s an east descent too that’s fun cause it’s not as technical. Easy to be north of 50mph on that way down, although I’ve been north of 50 on this way down too.

I look forward to every upload of yours, spurs me forward to being able to do what I used to years ago before doing my back and hip in, 6 months in and am finally able to start seeing what I used to have, apart from pace up hill, hip is lagging behind a bit still though am starting to feel it in the legs. How many recon runs do you do before switching to filming? Definitely not trying to be a detractor from your quality work (I love every upload you push out) I do however have to laugh at the fact you say that is a rough road, here in Australia most of the roads I ride on when descending are in far worse condition, bone shaking when at speed and are two thirds the width (In the wider sections) of that beautiful road you are on (Some of those roads are within 25km of city suburb limits, also main arterial routes out of the city) Taking into account the compression algorithm KZbin uses is quite detrimental to video quality, I didn't see any part of the road where you would have had to swap lines on the straight/in the corner.
@SAFABrian3 жыл бұрын
I am an Australian citizen and lived in Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. The roads are great in Aus. I lived in Mexico for 6 years and the roads are far worse there than on Palomar. Palomar is still a rough road, you can see I'm bouncing through most corners of the first half.

I didn’t dislike this, and I’ve ridden both this (South Grade) and the East Grade ascent. I don’t approve of his reckless use of the left hand side of the road, especially in some totally blind situations. He’s very lucky he didn’t get killed, and he definitely risked the lives of anyone who might have been driving up.
