My dad just passed away, I remember him carrying this knife in a homemade sheath on his belt for years. As my brothers and I were cleaning his apartment I told them if we came across this knife it was mine. We spent hours cleaning and searching the house, found a bunch of random pocket knives and then BINGO we found a shoe box with the homemade sheath and this knife in it! Also found a smaller Explorer pocket knife in the same box, looks older. Thank you for the video, didn't know much about the knife or the year!

Thanks for bringing these fine ol' knives out for discussion. I own Bucks 300 Series knives from that time period and 2 Stockman pattern 301s made in Post Falls. I wish buck would return to the flat grind seen on the pre-86 production and would again produce the ( 4") Wrangler .

When I pick up an old used knife, I can almost feel the weight of personal use, like it has its own personality.

I just found my 1982 303 I thought I had lost, in my old tackle box in the attic. Somehow it got left behind when I downsized tackle box to fit in a backpack. I carried it for years before tackle duty. ~ It was even fun playing spin the bottle with it with my gal. (open one blade/spin on its back) (-: Great li'l knife still in great condition. Most used blade was the little spade blade. ~~ Few years back I rescued a 1980 Case XX camp knife from my gal's father's old tackle box. Still looks/works great but a tad of rust here and there. ~ If you ever go to yard sales take a peek for old tackle boxes with stuff still in it. You may find an old treasure to clean up for a few bucks. Just buy the whole box.

Wow that’s awesome! I appreciate hearing stories that come with the knives. It makes them that more special. I’ll have to stop by some garage sales 👍

How do you clean rust on an old knife like this?
@musicbydeandre5242 Жыл бұрын
@Mr. Barlow or if you'd know too, I find it hard to clean the inside where the knifes sit.

I grew up with these knives. My first one was a Cadet my dad handed down to me when he upgraded to a standard stockman. When I was in Boy Scouts I got a 307 Wrangler. That is an incredible work horse. Recently I got a Buck 317 Trailblazer. You could cut down a small tree with that one!

I’m still looking for the 307, 311, and 317. They are a little harder to come by and are sometimes $$$

@@MrBarlow There's a Barlow 331 too. Usually the congress and barlow are in yellow handles.

Just remembered the 321 bird knife too. Don't see that one a lot.

Mr. Barlow, You are one year older than Rough Ryder. I collect vintage Buck 112s, which I love for the same reasons you mentioned. At nearly 50 years old, each has a story.

The 112 is a lovely knife. I bought my 112 used and the sheath smelled like many years of cigars lol. There’s just something about getting an older knife that I love. I’m glad you share the same feeling.

Nice video. Just bought a 309 for $7.00 used in very good condition. Looks just like a Camillus knife. Has the long nail nic, knife & hammer plate, thin brass liners and no date stamp. Mine still has the factory edge (never been sharpened by the owner) and the handle scales are in excellent shape. Bucks vs.Camillus knives which are more desirable? What would mine be worth?

What does it mean when "Buck MADE IN U.S.A." is on one side of the blade and 305 on the flip side?
