I've never understood why European firemen usually get water on in under 30 seconds yet in the US it is always considerably longer, often 5 minutes or more. Sometimes there are lengthy periods of total inactivity. US firemen arrive on scene in good time, are doubtlessly well trained, well led and exceptionally well equipped. I just don't get it.

I don't want to say something bad, but that is kind of a FDNY mindset. It isn't a coincidence that they have so many hurt and sadly sometimes even killed firefighters. In this case such behaviour can lead to cancer many years later. Yes they are heroes, but even heroes can take care for their health ... In this matter other fire departments are much further in preventing long-term consequences.

@Stargazzer8112 жыл бұрын
The "Can Man" carries the can on every call regardless of call type because his job is to protect his fellow firefighters. Typically you see that on truck company's, as the can is used for pinpoint suppression of fire while they work inside a building or to knock down fire in case they get trapped. It can also be used to put out trash or car fires depending on the size and scope of the fire, though its rare for it to be used on car fires over foam or straight water from a line.
@teun93803 жыл бұрын
Wow amazed by this video. In the Netherlands the fire would be out in 20 sec because of high-pressure lines. They roll it out within 5 seconds from out of the truck. Besides that in the Netherlands they would wear masks (all of them) to ensure nobody gets smoke inhilated which is very unhealthy!
@FireFrenchy3 жыл бұрын
As much as I respect firefighters from every nations and agree with you on the ease of masking up for a car fire, theres a reason why the FDNY is famous world wide and I never hear a single mention of any FD in the Netherlands (doesn’t mean you guys are not good at what you do). There is a “swagger” and a sense of tradition and pride in the ‘Merican Fire Service that does not exist in Europe. And if it does it’s in a totally different fashion. To my knowledge, the FDNY guys don’t really g.a.f. to know how things are done elsewhere in the world, plus most of those guys will see more fires in 3 years than most firefighters in Europe. Have a good one and stay safe.
@teun93803 жыл бұрын
@@FireFrenchy I don't know if you ever visited Europe, because you have a sceptical view. In Europe, we do have real pride in the fire services. They extinguish fire far back into the year 1600 and the first fire department originated in the old Roman empire. Also, you say NYFD firefighters see more fires in 3 years than most firefighters in Europe. This is simply not true. In NYC itself there are around 7000 fires each year and in the Netherlands around 6000. You can argue that the Netherlands is a country and NYC a city, but NYC (8,4mil) is actually smaller in population than the Netherlands (17mil). In conclusion, I think you can leave your Eurosceptical view. Sure all around the world, we do things differently, but we can also learn from each other. If things go better in the Netherlands for example extinguishing a fire, the NYFD can take that as an example. Have a good day aswell

@@simonsupersi2225 It varies by department in the USA, but it's very common to see a truck (i.e. ladder, tower, quint, etc.) or second engine dispatched on any expressway incident. It's for scene protection, as it enables full 360 usage of the primary apparatus, as well as provides more manpower and additional extrication equipment. Typical protocol is a truck or second engine positioned at a 45 degree angle with a significant gap between the scene. Unfortunately, secondary accidents are becoming far too common.
