I always leave a little room so that I can buy a different shirt at the end of my Camino. It’s nice to pick up something new that I haven’t been wearing for days on end and I feel a bit more refreshed on my flight home. Makes a great souvenir too👍🏻

That's a great tip! We love the store "Nikki's Galicia." They have so many great t-shirts.

Agree. We never advocate throwing away clothes just because. Quality over quantity for us.

Fantastic list! I've only walked the Frances once but these are all the things I would tell someone based on my Camino experience. Well done!

This was an extremely timely video for me personally. I will be starting the Camino Frances the second week October and the links to local travel is especially helpful. If you are willing I'd appreciate your thoughts on two questions: -How does the rolling window for reservations work? Do you pay for all the days or only the ones you use? -I watched your "When to walk" video and Fall seems more wet than cold. Is it foolish to not bring a puffy jacket? tyia and thanks for all the great tips!
@DaysWeSpend

Thank you! For October, definitely bring your warm layers and good rain gear. The weather is super variable that time of year. For our rolling window, we usually book 2-3 days ahead by phone. Phone doesn’t require prepay. But if we change our mind, we call immediately to cancel so someone else can take our beds. It’s rude to reserve a bed and then not use it because the business loses out and a pilgrim that could have slept there can’t.

I will counter one point. Most credit cards DO have foreign transaction fees. Unless you are using one of the big travel cards (Chase Preferred/Reserve, Capital One Venture/X, Amazon Prime, USAA or REI). For instance most Chase Freedom cards do have a transaction fee.

Great point. We’ve had a card without foreign transaction fees for so long we thought the industry had caught up. Thanks for the update.

Good video. Fun reminder for me on when I planned my first Camino in 2012 and this video is adding to my desire to do another Camino. Would be great if I can go in 2025 (and would help me reset) but not sure if money and vacation time will work out. Question: Do you have any thoughts or observations on bringing a CPAP machine (for sleep apnea) on the Camino? I have a travel CPAP, which is lighter and smaller, but needs plugged in each night. Is this possible? Else, I could bring a battery for the travel CPAP machine (designed for people camping, etc) but that adds weight. Ideally, I would love to have all my items in my backpack, walk the Camino, and only reserve alberques when needed shortly in advance. Possible Video Idea: Have a video on how to (or things to keep in mind) for people that may have some minor health thing and how to deal with that on the Camino. Like Sleep Apnea, Lainey can talk about hearing aids (you mentioned this on a video I saw of yours), diabetes, etc. Just an idea, not sure if it would work, and you would need to put correct medical advisory warnings. Use if you want. :) Buen Camino.

Thank you! So our thoughts on the CPAP, we've actually stayed in an albergue where someone had one of them. It wasn't an issue for us but the guy was super nice about it and told everyone that he needed the only outlet in the room. Nowadays, there are many albergues with way more outlets, so the power is less of an issue. When you make reservations, it's best to let the albergue know that you have a CPAP machine. That way, they can save a bed close to the outlet for you. You might also want to stay in some private rooms if the dorm selection is limited. Thanks for the video ideas!

Thankyou for this - I reminder for me to think, rethink some choices for my Camino Frances starting 30 September. I think I am okay and am ready for my third walk. As always the flight (from Tasmania) is the toughest challenge

Great and informative video ! By any chance do you know a way to do automatic text/SMS response when away?! Here in Canada, the fee to keep my cell phone service in Europe is 12 can$ per day.... A bit too much for a 35-40 days camino.... Is it that complicated to use an e-sim card from Spain when I arrive? I'll continue my search!
@DaysWeSpend
@DaysWeSpend 2 ай бұрын
We aren't aware of any automatic text messaging services. If you're walking the Camino Frances, there is wifi everywhere so you won't need cell service. Otherwise, we suggest looking at Lobster, Holafly, or Orange.

Do you think people understand the ETIAS (Schengen Law) you mentioned. It is not implemented until 2025 according to the Spanish Embassy.
@DaysWeSpend
@DaysWeSpend 3 ай бұрын
The new ETIAS law is very confusing. We think that once the system is actually up and running in 2025, it will make more sense.
