This was a broadcast full of great history and antidotes. I didn't know that there was a Drum Corp in Central California. I graduated from Merced HS in 1976 and was very active in the Marching 100 Band. Most CA high school bands in the 1970's were street marching with 1 half-time show for the football season. We didn't know anything about drum corps. The Blue Devils showed up to march in a Central California summer parade, that we were in, circa 1975. We were quite intrigued with them, especially the power and volume of just drums and brass. My husband grew up in Southern California and he marched in The Santa Ana Winds circa 1977 on tuba. I knew of the Santa Ana Winds, as they were the sponsors of the Santa Ana Band Review held Thanksgiving weekend. Is there a site to look up the membership and pictures of the old corps?

Jolesch pictures. They did ISSMA/BOA/IPA/WGI as well. You used to be able to buy little show sheet collages with all your classmates. It was so neat. All of my live action marching shots I looked pretty dumb.

I like '85, '89 and '91 Freelancers in particular. Some of my favorite arrangements. Especially '91. That drum major though is in a fierce competition with '86 Cadets for craziest looking dm.
