Trying to decide on RV type. Thinking about truck camper. Key question I have is: can you live in the camper when it is off the truck? If it has slides, can you use off the truck with slides out? This seems key to me as I would want to be mobile without taking the camper along.

My last slide in camper was a 1976 I bought in 1977 (yes; I'm an old fa@t, but still RV-n). It was a 9.5' (1.5' longer than the truck bed). It weighed ~2k. No Gray or black tank, no slides, microwave or shower. Gray water drained outside into a 5 gal jerry can. Big walk-in closet that could be converted into a bathroom. Fiberglas bathrooms had a reputation for smelling after several uses, so most experienced RV people didn't want them. We had a small cassette toilet. 1-20# propane, + 20 gal fresh water. Ice box & small catalytic heater. Hot water was the tea pot on the stove. Battery power was from the truck battery. Front window over the cab did not leak. Small individual hand pump hydraulic jacks on each corner was an option we got. This was not a stripped model but just how most were equipped. 3/4T trucks were the norm & their load cap was not nearly as high as they are today. Extremely few 1T trucks. Paid $2500 for it, which for a 1 year old camper wasn't bad. Got a lot of use out of it as well. Extremely little issues as there are today with things breaking or poor workmanship. Pretty simple unit.

That's the model that I'm looking to get in a couple years when I retire, for exactly the reasons you stated. You have to be able to use the RV with the slide in and side entry is a must. I wish Lance had continued this model but they went with the 1172 that has the rear slide that you must deploy to enter the camper. What I would have loved to see is a hybrid 1191/1172 design, with the 1172's mid-bath layout. You get a little more room in the bathroom, at least it seems to be the case in the 1172. I sometimes ponder whether you can get an 1172 and just remove the rear slide, building a normal fixed wall. There's also a Bigfoot 3000 series that has a mid bath and can be had with or without a slide, but is rear entry. Good luck with this truck camper, I look forward to seeing your video on the renovations and delamination repair!

I think truck campers are so cool! Good for you for getting one. I have a question about your fire extinguisher - what is the model please? Our extinguisher mount looks identical to yours and I haven't had any luck finding a replacement. Also we have the same type of toilet and under the box is the black tank. That's why the box is there. We don't mind it though because it is like having a built-in squatty potty.

The table area bed is for Carmen to lounge and snooze !!! I see a lot of potential in the renovation . I think that bedroom closet needs to be redone and remove that small odd area wall .

Looking forward to your renovation. If your out camping with the slide out and you go somewhere in the truck you might want to take the slide key with you. Less chance of someone stealing your camper with the slide out.

No doubt this camper will look awesome when you finish it! It doesn’t have much outside storage at all, but at least you have the entire bed of your truck to store stuff! The 2 propane tanks and generator was a nice surprise. Jason, you did a great job pulling that camper so straight in your yard with so little room to negotiate! Look forward to seeing the renovation as you go!

I easily found your 2005 lance brochure online, it had an optional feature then for connecting that camper window to the trucks back window- interesting. You got a lot of work, stupid carpet everywhere. 😬. I got a northern lite n june (i had the same solitude as you too) so my door is at the back, when i drove through spitting rain, the back was a bit dirty but was no different than what happened to the solitudes door in the same kinda rain. 🤔. I remember yes solitudes back always got hammered. Your stairs are gonna get hammered by mud/ dirt because of the back wheel being right there, mud flap helps but same thing, you’ll get light mud spray. (I had a TT with door behind wheel). Good reasoning Jason for wanting a side entrance door but it ends up being a catch 22 for the dirt. But hey if you can mount bikes at the back well now your reasoning pays off! ✔️. No way would i be interested in a new lance today, yeah older ones like a lot of older trailers were no doubt made better. 🍻

Are you sure about the anode rode? My Dometic HWH has one. Also my 24' travel trailer was setup exactly the same for the water fill. Come to think of it the previous trailer was the same.

We could really use your help! We have a 2018 375 RES and there is no power to the leveling jacks. Do you guys know where that fuse is located? We have looked everywhere and googled everything. Thank you in advance is you know.

Yes! There’s actually not a fuse but an auto resetting breaker in the front storage compartment that will need to be replaced. You’ll want to upgrade to an 80 amp breaker.
