| Pre Restoration | 1994 National 56" Industrial Ceiling Fan

Another big restoration project awaits!
Yes, I got another fan which I can't yet use(well I can, but it just won't look good in my room as it's way too big). Looking at the bright side, my childhood dream of owning one of these National 56" industrial ceiling fans has finally come true. Times 4 even! This fan will surely be one of the hardest restoration job I've ever worked on, but as I've said in the video, I will definitely enjoy every second of it. I've seen National ceiling fans in worse condition than mine, and those I will probably pass as things I can scrap. But I'll save this one.
The motor growls really loud when you switch it to high. I have no idea yet what's causing that horrible sound. The rust on the blades have weakened the metal sheet quite a bit, and the blade bends relatively easily. But it's nothing I can't save from the brink of death.

(1:23) It looked to me as thought the lower canopy was installed too low and kept rubbing up against the motor. (1:57) I can also tell that whoever installed the replacement KDK or Panasonic ceiling fan kept the original National downrod and upper canopy, as I've seen some people do that in Singapore too, but usually if access to the ceiling fan mounting is obstructed by a false ceiling after the fan was mounted to a true ceiling above it. They likely then gave you the downrod that came with that fan.

I don't really know how this fan was installed in the previous owner's place, but judging by the brand new white downrod, I suppose you're right

I have idea! You may try to convert from National F-EY149 to look like the Panasonic F-5609L ceiling fan, and keeping these original parts of the fan.

Makes me wonder what could have damaged the blades to that extent. Were the fans at 3:49 repainted? They look really good. Looking forward to seeing the end result!

I believe it was my uncle's contractor, or his workers. House builders when they know a ceiling fan isn't going to be reinstalled after the house is finished usually doesn't care about preserving it. They put the fan on the floor with the blades still on, then accidentally step on it, or drop something on it. And yep, those ceiling fan motor covers were repainted. I store the blades at the other corner of the shop, those I've finished restoring as well.

I have saw three of these in a store cuz me and my dad bought some nylon for my kite, the capitor was crazy rusty!! When full speed the fan is still spinning low.

National fans aren't being made anymore. Panasonic and KDK is their successor. You can try contacting Panasonic or KDK repair centers, for a replacement fan blade. I tried this with my fan, but found out the screw holes don't fit. I had to modify the new blades bit. If your local Panasonic // KDK repair center can help with that, that'd be great

You should try to get a nice Crompton Greaves ceiling fan,Crompton Greaves replaced my national ceiling fan and nice thing about Crompton is it's alaminium so it won't rust also I got a 3 year guarantee with mine,plus they say the blades weight the same so guaranteed no wobble,I got the 900mm 5 speed industrial Crompton Greaves made in India,blade are thick to I'm very very satisfied with my purchase although I don't like new fans alot,I believe Crompton Greaves is a very good brand even their new fans are top class

I would love to have a Crompton Greaves, but unfortunately they're not available in our market down here. But as far as I know, they are available in our neighboring country. So if I have the chance to go there again, I'll surely pick one up.

I don't know what it's called, but it's shaped like a coral sponge, and is attached to an angle grinder. I'll show a picture of it in Insta's DM.

Eh a sandpaper attachment on an angle grinder will eat them rust no problem. My main obstacles are the bearings, speed regulator, badge, & the gold surround for the motor centre, and the canopy.

I had one of these,I didn't like it alot,those blades are not very thick and it bents to easy,I've sold mine,in my experience national/kdk made some of the best desk/stand/wall fans in the world,but this type national ceiling fan I think they failed on this one

You're right about the blades being a tad too thin. I've seen several examples with drooping blades even though those fans haven't seen that much sunlight, and humidity. These can be great fans if they're handled carefully, and properly though.
