Something about this song just hits me with a sense of sadness and nostalgia. It reminds me of the times at night I would watch the stars for hours. Just staring up into the infinity of space.

This song reminds me of this past winter. I used to listen to this song when I was on the bus on my way to school. That period I was really depressed and I used to cry a lot. I never liked the new school and i hated waking up early in the mlrning even before the sunrise. I remember this song was playing on those mornings and it was the only thing that made me feel better and could calm me down. (Sorry for my bad english but english it's not first language :") )

Not to draw hate, but this reminds me a bit of Mincreaft's soundtrack in a way. It's more complex and grand, but some of the echoing themes especially remind me of the night music.

Can anyone tell me why this song makes me think of death and tulips?
@luminantAegis8 жыл бұрын
you asked for it; i have to assume you know about voidlight and caliborn/caliope, so i guess don't read this if you're not done homestuck anyways. a lot of songs that have a spacey theme are generally tied with the theme of the unknown; as is the great expanse of space - calli's hiding space seems to be within the *void*, the unknown space between life and death (as far as the furthest ring is involved with death, anyways). At 0:30 the accompanying piano, already playing harsh tones goes lower and lower - which can be tied to a great tragedy, and at 1:25 it accents that quite well, it feels like something terrible must have happened. It truly feels like, perhaps someone died tonight. Was it Calliope, when Caliborn took over? Perhaps that was the death - and this song is a reflection of her spirit that wandered the furthest ring that night. As the music starts to build up at 1:55, you perhaps hear the resolve of Calliope's spirit, that she will do anything in order to put an end to her brother, for the love of the universe and more importantly - her friends inside it. A red tulip symbolizes undying love. Even through all the pain and suffering she has had to deal with, she still thought of nothing other than to make sure her friends were okay, and that they would make it to the end of the game safely, at any cost - as her ultimate fate was the ramifications of her tulip - her love for everything that made her life worth living.
@fernikinss8 жыл бұрын
I know right
@EdmundHawkins7 жыл бұрын
I found it amusing to know that the red tulip holds that meaning; their time spent in bloom is so short-lived. In the big picture, they're little more than a moment. But maybe that's what defines us?

so is it for Calliope or for the Lalondes
@lateasusual_8 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it's lalondes
@vitriolicAmaranth8 жыл бұрын
lateasusual I ask because the art for it is Calliope's black hole (the Void she collapses into shortly after foreshadowing it in her speech to Jade and long after it was foreshadowed by the icons of each aspect) absorbing the Green Sun (a persistent symbol of the Light aspect). But also they're the Lalondes' aspects obviously, as well, for that matter, as Vriska and Equius's. Actually come to think of it the two aspects just seem mysteriously related to each other somehow throughout the whole story. Huh.
@lateasusual_8 жыл бұрын
I didn't think about it that way, but i'm pretty sure the art is just something lumi chose to have something to do with "void" and "light" and to look pretty :) The music itself on the other hand is (and i've forgotten the word for it) where it's like a call and a response, as in Rose and Roxy
@vitriolicAmaranth8 жыл бұрын
lateasusual Nah it's the officially selected artwork for the song on bandcamp homestuck.bandcamp.com/track/voidlight if you mean leitmotif, rose's leitmotif is Chorale for Jaspers which I don't hear here. Roxy's songs are all so different that it's hard for me to discern what hers is but I don't THINK it's here. But not every song contains the associated characters' leitmotifs anyway. On the other hand Calliope has no music outside of the album Cherubim and the song Overture from Act 7 (originally from Symphony Impossible to Play), but one of her songs on Cherubim is the Lyrist and her class is muse, suggesting a connection to the Lyre, and one of the instruments here appears to be a harp or lyre, but that's a bit of a stretch I think. Even going off the art and drawing the connection to Calliope is in error though, I think. With their connection to the events that unfold (with Roxy aiding Calliope and bringing her to that point and Rose literally creating the Green Sun, each fulfilling roles associated with their aspect) the scene could still be just as much about them. At least it PROBABLY rules out Vriska and Equius (though the instruments, violin and harp, both appear in Horsechestra), but then again maybe it's just for the relationship between Void and Light in general, like Space to Time. Whatever that relationship actually is.
@lateasusual_8 жыл бұрын
yeah, i didn't mean leitmotif, i was talking about the way there's two pianos and one will play something and the other will play something back. I guess i said it was Rose and Roxy just because they have the most obvious void - light relationship, but it'd be interesting to find out what the intention was after all this speculation :)
