I am zone 9b (San Diego) and I did experiment.. I put some corms in the fridge at 40 degrees to pre-sprout and some in room temp (70-75 degrees) and the ones at room temperature sprouted in a day and a half!! Wow... the ones in fridge took 3 weeks.. we can pre-sprout above 60 degrees!

Totally agree, i presprout at room temp, no problem. And I placed in a window 🤷🏻♀️ not sure why I would want to slow them down in dark and cold…?

Hi Janey, I just sit here and nod my head yes every time you talk about having two seasons… LOL since moving here last year I have realized that it went from 110° basically to winter now lol. We are about an hour north of you and it looks like we’re going to have rain almost every day this week! So exciting! Hope you get some much needed rain drops too!!

Wow, I have watched a lot of videos on planting the ranunculus in my zone 7b and YOU MY FRIEND have the best information yet. I can do this now! Thank you!

What a quick and easy wait to get the Ranunculus and Anemones started. Now if I had a extra fridge I to would do the same thing. You are so full of information so amazing. Looking forward to seeing all of these planted and pre-sprouted. Enjoy the rest of your day.

Great idea to pre-sprout. I plan to do the same, but I'm still waiting for my ranunculus and anemone delivery! I hope they get here soon! Thanks for the info. 🌷M

The first time I planted ranunculus I used what I thought was a good sz planter, it proved to be a bit too small. I was shocked at the roots when I pulled them to transplant, live and learn as they say. Your big cut garden is going to be so nice, you're so excited just at sowing seeds.

Can't wait to see them in the spring! 😁 I almost doubled my order from last year for my little cutflower farm & landscape this year. I'll be growing about 600! I'm putting a lot in my landscape this year because I want to be able to just enjoy some of them without cutting!

Very helpful. Thanks! Your videos are always so informative and easy to watch. I get all of my questions addressed. Did you mention when you dig these up? When did you cut the blooms? How often do they bloom or how long do they bloom before you cut them or dig them up?

Thanks for the information. I had always heard overnight for soaking. I tried once and most rotted. I will have to try again and see if I can do better. Have a wonderful day.

For optimal blooming conditions Ranunculus need long light periods above 13h/day together with air temperatures lower than 17 degrees celsius. According to new literature from Petronella/Italy. Hi and best wishes friend Germany.

As a Floridian when I read a comment like this it makes me want to throw my entire ranunculus set up right over the fence!!!!! I don't know why they would sell bulbs like this in Lowe's in Florida knowing that this plant does well and freaking Massachusetts... Greedy companies have no regard for other people's money

I try pre sprouting and growing ranunculus last yr in my zone 8 And they did not do well! Ah well a good experiment

How did these work for you in the fridge?! I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to find a place that gets cool enough and saw you used the fridge, so I put a new batch in my basement fridge a few days ago! 🤞

Hi Janey, quick question... are these corms like the tulip bulbs in that they need to stay away from fruits and veggies? Or can I chill them in my normal fridge to achieve those temperatures? I'm zone 8b so I could soak them and plant them out but I'd rather pre-sprout them for earlier blooms if I can put them in my normal fridge. Thanks for the video, very helpful as I've never planted these before and wasn't sure what to do!

Hi Janey, I have an Anemone, but it has roots, and spreads by rhizomes...please explain the difference between the types? I have never had one before. I just bought the root one. Thanks much!!

I am in 8a and am not confident that ranunculas would make it! We definitely got down to 25 this past winter. Pre sproutin in late winter sounds so much better! Going to try this!

If I want blooms for early April when would I plant in the ground? Im in zone 9a
@nadineb27265 ай бұрын
These ranunculus as a Floridian are just a no-go I don't understand why they would sell these bulbs at Lowe's knowing that there is zero probability that I can grow them properly in this environment... You see so many comments on so many different videos about them being cold loving plants. When you live in Florida as I think you know something like this is just a logistical nightmare and not worth the work that it's going to take. I think it's best to find flowers that are indigenous and prefer this area that way it's less stressful for the plant and the gardener. But I do appreciate your efforts and your video I really hope your flowers come out mine are about to get thrown right in the garbage.

Do you not have to oxygenate the water while soaking? I have always seen it done that way.

In zone 10b, do your ranunculus come back year after year?
@lizettelabso84802 жыл бұрын
I started mine just 3 days ago. I checked them everyday and I noticed that the top back side of my tray gets a little bit frozen. Is that normal? I have water bottle in the fridge also and they're not frozen. I put the tray towards the front. And also the top layer of soil gets dry.
@veronikasladekova52262 жыл бұрын
Why you dont leave the corms in the ground if they survive your winter? Is your summer too warm for them? I have anemones planted as perrenials in zone 7, and now they already have some leaves growing.
@MariePotsPlants2 жыл бұрын
I know a lot of people in our zone 9b actually refrigerate certain bulbs and things like garlic because we don’t get that cold and it needs that “winter” dormancy… I think. lol I’m not an expert that’s why I watch this channel 😊 I didn’t know all this and I put bulbs in the ground last year and got nothing!
