This here is motorcar racing should be. A floating scaffold of leaf spring a drive train and skinny tyres bolts or strapped to an overpowered aircraft (or battle tank) engine block. No need for power steering I really don’t think it would help at all anyway because there’s no traction control, ABS, nothing on these car augment the drivers skills, abilities and limits that I can see. Some look as though they handle like a Sherman tank but I’d bet a few of them would pull like a freight train while in top gear and still ask for another one or two.

I was at Julian Majzub's home one day when he was trying to recover parts of a Delarge (I think) from South America. His brother had come across the parts and Julian was rather excited. Not only do some of these guys build their own cars, they have the courage to race them. Coincidentally, Julian is driving a Sunbeam in this race and I currently live two miles from the old Sunbeam factory (now a block of flats).

That Bob Walker is a wild man in the Darracq working that giant steering wheel. basically sitting out in open on a crate on a chassis without any body work. there's no doubt that dude is badass. I have driven race cars before but I'm sure if I could do what he does. the British I have to say know a thing or two about auto racing. the competition was incredible that out of those first five cars on the track. they were trading places so many times a person really couldn't say who was going to win the race until they were right at the finish line. but Bob Walker's kid ended up taking the win that was definitely some fantastic racing. I could watch much more auto racing like that for sure. these guys make NASCAR look like a bunch of slobs.
