I simply adore the structure of this vintage series! How it focuses on its main characters with development as well as teasing the plot,keeping you interested. It's much more freedom in comics as far as flushing out the idea,similar to a series on a premium channel or streaming service. "God" has some really fucked up emotional issues in this series. He switched from Old Testament version to New Testament in less than a second. He acted like the local teenage neighborhood sociopath who is among in the eyes of adults one moment and then a volatile predator the next moment. The saint of killers is the gruff old head senior who has seen some shit, who scares the kid(god) off. Lol

Yeah I just mention Sandman, because I think Lucifer is a spin-off character from that book. I only watched the first episode of Lucifer, and didn’t watch anymore, I doubt it would do the comic justice. Although 6 seasons is pretty impressive.

Personally I think Odin succeeds as a "acts badass but is actually pathetic" villain where Herr Starr fails. Odin is just more direct, and the reveals of how much of a loser he is happens WHILE the story is happening, not after. Herr Starr usually gets his humiliating moment after the main pieces have come and gone, which comes across more like he's a threatening character constantly getting sabotaged by the author rather than as a comedic villain.

I'm doing my notes for Volume 9 right now. Jesse mentions in volume 9 "Fella taught me to fight was the same piece of shit shot my daddy dead infront of my eyes. That'll tend to focus your concentration." So Jody taught him to fight when Jesse was growing up. We do know Jody is a good fighter, Jody fought a gorilla and won, lol.
