Protection Warrior Advanced Tank Guide 4.3

Today we take a look at the advanced ideas and thoughts of being a protection warrior in a raiding environment and the ideas which have allowed me to push forward past the normal 5 man tanking process.

@sshurato This is explained in the more basic guides of the prot warrior. I adress the usefulness of last stand in comparison to rallying cry in full detail mate. It's something that's being used a lot at the moment.

you'll do fine mate its more about being confident in your abilities :) all you need to remember is to use cooldowns and keep in communication with your healer so if he has problems you can try to deal with them :)

I too love the Protection Warrior, it just feels so good fighting as much as others i've played with. Others i tend to accidentally dose off, and thats hella bad. Last time in an instance, i was using a protection pally, and slept during the instance, i was running on a wall and people were waking me up. I dunno, Protection warrior feels so awesome.

@numbcore at 84 when you pop shield wall/shield block thats a 30% more chance to block so during high damage times youre ctc is covered

Great guide Preach. I find it interesting that the mechanics for Cata bosses basically removes most of the flavour of tanking. Most of it can be 1-tanked :( The final boss of the entire game is 95% "survive getting spanked" and 5% "pick up 2 adds." Something wrong there. But thanks for your thoughtful tips - especially the CtC stuff. Would you mind doing the Blood DK advanced soon? Seems like a good counterpoint to Prot Warrior. Thanks.

Protection Warrior is my alt but i like to play him much, much more than my main (ele shaman) not because shaman isn't funny, just because Protection Warrior (imho) is the most interesting class(spec) to play EVER!

@IronHarper it can be good when gearing up, not in raids but even on normal/heroics i rather ask for someone cc the caster instead to rely on a 3seg silence also, as a warrior, u could interrupt, charge stun, intercept stun, shockwave, concussion blow and use spell reflection it is a good way to prevent the caster to cast anything but i agree, in zandalari i used to silence the amani casters

if you keep an eye on things and follow the advice of preach. you will do just fine. remember. before you even que just accept the dps and healer are going to be shit. and if they are even OK then thats good and your already in good shape. and remember get there first and make sure to use thunderclap and get rend on everything and make your death ball. and when they are almost dead look at your healers mana to make sure hes good then just pick up another mob and keep it rolling. you'll do fine.

@sshurato This isnt just for DS... and fyi the trash before morchok can be silenced.... I'm not saying its a must but having a ranged silence helps in HC's unless yourself ofcourse are constently running DS day in Day out which i highly doubt.

@Reverend2007 mobs can be silenced, not bosses, i just tank DS, BH and FL sometimes when i do dungeons i have my ways with casters, ask for CC or charge/intercep/leap on top of them or throw to get agrro + spell reflection this patch dungeons are SOO easy, mobs arent a problem on zandalari before the nerf the amani casters were a problem but CC is always to these guys i rather gain 22k more HP with laststand than Rallying Cry plus the bonus healing from enraged regen

The macro doesn't take the NE racial into account, I modified the above mentioned macro to do so and also show you how much you are above or below the cap: /run b=GetBlockChance() d=GetDodgeChance() p=GetParryChance() m=UnitRace("player")=="Night Elf"and 7 or 5 t=m+d+p+b s=t

@mikepreachwow rallying cry is good to mitigate raid aoe dmg and last stand is very usefull when only you are in danger

Preach! Started my prot pally because of your videos and I'm finally in ilevel 384 gear! (Brofist!!!) Problem is I'm about to go into Normal DS and i looked at my gear and currently my dodge is far below my parry rating and I dont know how much this will effect my raiding. I have been leveling a warrior as prot atm. He is level 72 and I'm really enjoying tanking. And I'm planning of tanking at 85 and at 90 once MoP comes out. However, I'm kind of worried it will be hard at end gamin, seeing how I have never tanked before. So my question is, is tanking all that at end game? I'm willing to put in the work to be "good" at it. Just worried i'll be horrible at and have healers or the raid group wipe and rage because of me :/
