Test drove the 4-Tec Drift today and was really impressed with the performance and the handling. I'm a novice drifter and I'm sure many of the "Pros" here have the experiences and engineering background to let me know that there are other Drift car that's much better than Traxxas. But I can assure you that most are missing the point. Traxxas is a family oriented business that gets people out and play with RC's. Yes, there are really great RC's out there, but no company gets more people out to enjoy the hobby than Traxxas. I can see that more people will be visiting the local Drift tracks. For $329, it's a great way to get started on the hobby. Availability of the cars, parts and probably a whole lot of aftermarket products and accessories.

The fact this was shot at SuperG and they were probably the ones driving these and could hardly maintain smooth tandems shows that there’s some work to be done. This is going to give new people a bad impression on how a true drift chassis should feel and drive. 60° of angle is severely lacking when most chassis are easily achieving 75-80°+ out of the box. Just my immediate impressions and criticisms though.

Most beginner kits with a gyro and hobbywing bl60 sensored are cheaper. Throw in a base flysky to have endpoint and expos and you're in for a better time.

I get why theyd used the 4tec chassis but they should've just made a whole different chassis design instead and have its own series and call it the drift tec idk. It'd be so cool to see a proper traxxas drift car competing. I just think the 4tec was just the easiest and cheapest traxxas to go about it. Kinda of a bummer, yet still cool to see traxxas finally getting into the game.

The best RTR Drift car hands down is the MST RMX 2.5. Nothing else drifts as well out of the box and they have so many upgrade options available! These will be good for the car park drift bashers only.

Elitest much, have u even driven one? I've driven the rmx 2.5 and drift cars that cost 4 times that and my 4tec drift is way more controlled and consistent right out of the box IMO. I have no idea why so many ppl are bashing this car, ya its a bit heavier but my only real complaint is that it didn't come with a brushless system.

60 degrees of angle is not enough. You guys should have redesigned the chassis tub and the entire front bulkhead to allow for at least 75-80 degrees. These cars will just get in the way of other drivers on the track please make revisions before release to solve this or at least develop a parts bin to upgrade the steering lock. This literally looks like you took a standard 4tec 2.0 and removed the driveshaft and added a touch more angle

Is it made for prepped tracks though looks like it performs ok on unprepped tarmac/asphalt which is where most people will run/play with this. Surely this can only help grow the class maybe it could also have it's own class like they do with the Slash. I am the opposite of a TRX fan boy and the price of this is overpriced which is now just a standard TRX feature. If people want RC drifting to become more main stream then the snobbery needs to stop it's not meant to be a competition drift car, Traxxas don't make competition vehicles

I see the first issue......the motor that was put in this car. Why put a brushed motor into this car? It looks like a "new" specifically designed brushed motor for this car. Yea that is smart, make all of the other vehicles which use to run the 12T now have the new BL2 system, but we are going to make a new brushed for this drift car.

Keeps the cost down for the consumer to buy the car. Would you honestly pay $400-$500 for a brushless RTR? I certainly wouldn’t, especially when I can build one with better electronics for less. Remember: Traxxas and their dealers need to turn profit on these. No good to anyone if these sit on a shelf unsold, no matter what they put inside.

Yeah I’ve never had good luck with traxxas brushed motors mabe because brushed is a smother motor than sensorless brushless motors and they did not have a sensor setup to install idk that’s just my 2 cents

Get a Redcat RDS or a MST RMX 2.5. Dont waste your money on this thing man. MST has lots of body options if thats your main deal. But your gonna not like driving this 4tec. Not enough steering to drift, electronics are put in wrong place, no gyro to adjust. Your gonna get frustrated with this thing. Even if ya put another 600 to 800 into this car it will never drive on the track. This is made for parking lots. I would love for more people to get into RC Drift, just hate how Traxxas tosses out some POS parts car and calls it a drift car.

The only negative comments come from people who think that Traxxas can’t do it or “aren’t welcome” in drift. Those who are actually open to Traxxas entering the ring, even if they have slight reservations about it, are not negative. To me, I welcome the news because it means more people will have access to try drifting. My only concern is just how well supported this entry will be and for how long. Will Traxxas stay the course or decide to pull the plug if sales numbers don’t meet or exceed expectations? How open are they going to be to criticism and how will they address any and all concerns by users of this new platform? Not all that comment are negative but that’s not to say negative comments don’t exist.

I’ll reserve my thoughts for when there’s a full deep dive by a dedicated RC drift channel. My initial thoughts are a bit “it’s like Traxxas are building their own RWD TT-02 competitor”. Honestly, I need to know a little more than what the video is showing. Yes, I have Google and could dissect the technical specs myself but based on what I’m seeing… it’s almost a desperate money grab from the stubborn American RC companies who’re losing sales of off-roaders. I also have a concern with support for this vehicle, seeing how that’s one of the biggest caveats with any RC but more prevalent with drift. On top of that, how open are you to criticism and willingness to listen to drifters who can be very demanding? If you’re serious about drifting, please don’t fail your buyers. Support them and they’ll support you for years.

For me i like the 4tec platform with the 3s velenium system. We road race and drift them on rubber tires with gearing to run close to 50 mph. So if it has plastic tires i am out. Real drifting is done on rubber tires and so should RC drifting in my opinion

I was in the market for a drift car and seriously considered buying the MST but now that we have this I’m going to stick with traxxas and if need be upgrade it in the future as I get better at drifting. Please Traxxas release Import bodies for it in addition to the Mustangs.

please dont buy this, the track i visit often has been talking about this today trashing on it, if you want to build something yourself and understand it more get a yokomo rd 2.0 and get hobbywing electronics, it will be more $but if you are comitted to learning its so much more worth it, or if you dont want to buy it buy a yokomo yd2 or mst rmx 2.5, they are so much better and easily customizable than this, weve been laughing at the price, and the fact it has only 60 degree of steering angle, when i can hit 80 atleast on my mst and im at 88-89 on my other drift car, so if you will take anything i said to heart, dont buy this, theres so much better

Why can't companies just straight out make a good RC out of the box without having to look for and pay to modify. I use to be in the rabbit hole but pulled myself out. ADVICE **** For those of you who are looking into getting into the hobby know this. You buy RTR.. and you basically modify everything to make it decent. Good luck

The only fails are a brushed system for that price. That price is way too high. And there isn’t enough steering angle. Hopefully you’re working on an increased steering throw kit. Otherwise it looks great.

Traxxas make a new version of UDR make it 1/10 scale just tad wider and longer chassie so its not quite 1/7th scale. But lighten things uo. The bigger size helps with the awesome suspension realistic driving experience. Most importantly keeo your patent drive train rear axle parts. The udr ismt made gor bashing which is not a problum. But the oruce range znd parts the tryck needs isnt budget friendly. I keeo mine stick with the 5 must have parts to plbullet proof the tryck as it should cone stock all im saying hands my favorite rc to drive.
