Thank you. In my opinion, it is best to figure out what has failed and why instead of just replacing the defective parts and calling it good. There are many, many different styles of amplifier boards. A solid, firm understanding of diodes and transistors will go a long way to helping board repairs.

Hi Todd I have about 5 art series amplifiers that need to be repaired I can’t find any schematics online for these besides testing
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim. I do not believe you will find any schematics. If you need to dig into the circuit design the I would suggest reverse engineering one section at a time. Get one running and then use that one as the reference.

Hello, My amp makes my subwoofers crackle with a wave sound and when I bang on the amp in certain places it stops. Sometime it also just stops out putting to the subs and nothing plays. Im not to experienced in amps, but would you know what could be the problem?
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Mat, it sounds like a bad solder joint or something is loose. I would be careful as that can cause large surges in current and then you will end up with shorted transistors.

I opened it up and found a film capacitor with a green top that was loose if I try to solder it back to where it was should it have a better connection? Also would it hurt anything?
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 2 жыл бұрын
@@matw9743 It shouldn't cause any problems soldering it back in place. It is a common issue to have bad solder joints in older boards.

Please advise, on the output must the speaker output/polarity be in phase when you are done with a repair or do it depend on the design?
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 3 жыл бұрын
It does depend on the amplifier but for the most part, they are in phase if I am reading the question right. The biggest aspect I look for is having the same amplitude and no noise.

You can find me at www.ellensburgamplifier.com but I do tend to stay away from RF boards when I am busy due to the complexity of their circuits. They tend to be a little more difficult to repair. The Prime amplifiers are not as bad so please feel free to get ahold of me through the request form in the drop-down menu on the site.

hi can you use wd40 to clean a amp board? I tried alcohol, crc contact cleaner but both is leaving a brownish residue. keep up your videos learning alot from you! where do you buy your replacement components?
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lewis. I have never tried WD40 and not sure if that would leave a conductive residue behind. I have never had any issues with denatured or iso alcohol so I have not had to try other products. I get my parts from Mouser, LCSC, and UTSource (UTSource is hit or miss on obsolete parts so be aware and do your due diligence on testing received parts!). There are two people on eBay that I get obsolete original parts from whom have not failed me yet. I do have a contact I use for my large middle and end-of-year inventory orders.

@@jimcatanzaro7808 WD40 in my opinion is good for bolts on cars and not on any electrical components. I made a mistake years ago on a cardmatic tube tester when I used an oil-based spray on the card reader pins.

@@ellensburgamplifier I agree but if you have something that is mechanically locked up like a old selector switch that I always have to fix usually in a repair job i use a couple small drops of 3and 1 oil and I use my heat gun and work it gently and adding tiny drops of oil when it’s hot so it gets in there Hey everybody has little secrets I love em My old pots on this 1930s radio I would paint graphite on the dead spots on the pots and get it working great again they have paint available but it’s very toxic so you should use a fan or do it outside that’s the only down side

Hey Todd, another great video. I have a question, where do you ground your scope? Your signals are crisp and clean.
@ellensburgamplifier
@ellensburgamplifier 3 жыл бұрын
Great question Cliff. For most of the testing, the scope is grounded at the negative battery terminal. There are a few situations where this is not the case. If I am probing the pre-amp area, depending on how the secondary is tied to the pre-amp then I have to ground at the RCA signal ground. Also, the signal quality depends on the noise of the PS. I have one of the cheap 30v 10A adjustable supplies that the thing is absolutely noisy. Watch for earth ground loops!
