You can actually boot from NVME M.2 SSD storages. Use bootloader like Clover or DUET, it's a bit hard to do for beginners but it totally works.

Just got one of these and threw in my AMD cards (r9 380 and rx 480) and they both extend past the width of the case. I was prepared to dremel the video card brace off of the door like I did for my t5600 BUT the t7600 is actually 0.75 inches narrower in terms of the space between the mobo slots and the case door. Also, the PCIe slot at the top of the case is blocked in by the latch mechanism in the case door. Now, I'm looking at returning the PC or designing & building a custom door to fit these cards in!

I wouldn't say that Precision T7600's typically come with 15K RPM SAS drives, because they were all custom builds when they were sold new. However, the 15K mechanical can be a great performance to cost ratio. Thanks for commenting.

I have the Dell T7600 in the dual 8-core configuration but there are several 10-core and 12 -core CPU's that will also fit in that LGA 2011 socket. Is there a way to tell if those 10 and 12 core CPU's will work in this system? Dell didn't offer those as an option with this system but I think they might work and now they are pretty cheap.

@@traxxasftw Yes I did. The 12 core CPU will NOT work on the T7600 motherboard. So I found a cheap T7610 motherboard and I installed it and 2, 12 core CPU's and everything worked great. Everything fit and the only thing I had to do was re-route a couple cables.

Have you tried plugging your SATA SSD in to one of the onboard SATA ports? You can access sata power by removing the non-easy access panel with 3 Philips screws. You'll have to enable to specific port that you use in the bios.

We did run a benchmark. The nvme.2 ran slightly slower than the mfg posted speeds. It ran even slower the more we filled it up with storage. However, it did provide a significant performance increase compared to a regular Sata ssd.

I realize before I ask this that I'm asking this of the wrong crowd, buuut I need to upgrade and I'm trying to cover all perspectives. 95% of what I do is photo/video editing, AI, and VMs for testing at work (I'm a junior systems admin). I'm also broke. My previous rig was a 10 year oldA MD FX-8120 with 16GB of RAM, 256 SATA SSD, and a 1050ti 4GB. I had a motherboard failure, and then later a GPU failure, and now I'm down to a Dell Vostro 230 upgraded to a Q9550 quad core with 8GB of RAM , GTX 980 4GB and a 512 SATA SSD a friend gave me. I've done the math, and I can pick up a T7610 motherboard for around $110, 32GB of RAM for about 80 (what I have isn't ECC), and E5-2687W for around 110. I'd be at 300 bucks, with the ability to add more RAM and a second processor at some point. The above config would be on par for with a Ryzen 2600 based system, which would cost 220, or 345 if I maxed out the ram (compared to 350 for the same amount of ram on the Xeon system). If I upgrade to a 3600x on the Ryzen, I'm at 470, which really pushes my budget. Anyway, which way do you think I should go?

@GreenPCGamerscom6 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t recommended it. You’d have heating issues if you stacked 2 x RTX 2080 Ti cards in a T7600. You’d also struggle to provide 4 x 8 pin cables to properly power the cards. Why isn’t one RTX 2080 Ti enough? One single RTX 2080 Ti is more than you’ll need for pretty much any game on the market.

We tested the RTX 3070 Ti Founders Edition and it worked well. The RTX 3070 will also work in a T7600 workstation. However, not all 3070 versions will fit in a T7600 case. You'll have to look at the measurements of the specific mfg 3070 card before ordering it. You could also consider making mods to your side panel to accommodate whatever mfg card you are able to find.
