Close your eyes?!?! No definitely dont want to do that. Sweat rolling into your eyes sometimes can have that effect but never close them if can avoid it. Get a sparring partner to hit you in the face lightly till that fear goes away and develop a skill instead of a weakness.

I’m a big MMA fan and boxing is my favorite martial art. A lot of MMA fans don’t realize that boxing is more than just punches. The footwork, head movement, angles, defense, etc is beautiful artwork in motion. Great video! 👍🏼

@@ilisten1163 mma is a great sport same with its fighters. But compared to boxing. Mma is checkers. Boxing it’s very hard to pen a guy up and put leather on him. Just like chess, you have to get your opponent to open up his king. Mma if you’re not striking with him you can Leary’s clinch or wrestle him or leg kicks. It’s much easier to open up his defense

I use it a lot,, I like boxing but I dont like any hits on my head,,, have to use it for other things,,, so the VR variants are as the nearest I get.. People say you have to do matches to become a good fighter, they are right! but VR are better than nothing, and its give some practice and cardio.

Pay attention to Floyd Mayweather. More often than not, when he receives a blow, he does not close his eyes, but narrows them. While many eminent boxers close their eyes after receiving a blow. Because the basis of his fight, in my opinion, is perception. Thank you for your hard work, Health!

In shooting it's the same way. Helps greatly if you don't blink after every bang. But like in this instance, it comes with training and experience. Which I don't have, so I blink a lot.

Slow sparring and mitt work really helps with not closing your eyes, cuz your gonna be able to see punches and get used to seeing them. Also you can put your guard up, cover your face but look at the punches thru the guard, just tell your sparring partner to go easy.

So, I am new in a gym where I am the only "newbie". First day, first time sparring was like torture. I wont give up. If the coach doesnt tell me what to do, even when I tell him that I am new, I learn it myself through this Gentleman right here and ask the coach next time for direct advice. Other members seem really respectful, so I get the oppurtinity to train and not getting badly hurt. Funny thing is, I dont regret it. Its like I lost all anxiety in life, except getting punched in sparring. Its really strange to feel absolute calm and only having one problem in life. Its really elevating. Nothing helped me more in life. edit for anyone who is unsure or is going through the same: still going! coach takes his time now, because I stayed after training asking questions. He told me that he didnt think I would stay and that I got better. that boosted my confidence a ton... sparring is one of the most fun things I have and had in my life. And yes, I have a bruised rib, but if I tell them "please no right hooks on the body", anyone will watch out for me. The most fun thing is, if you spar and watch THIS CHANNEL, it makes a lot more sense and you can even learn A TON. My true coach is you, mr!!! much love guys!!

Yes, I am also doing kickboxing for over 2 months now, but I avoided the sparring training and I will avoid it for 1 more month. I am doing only technique and conditioning for now. I managed to injure my shoulder in the first weeks and it frustrates me really bad, But I am reading allot about shoulder injury and rehab and I am doing the exercises. Anyway, as you said, the training really helped me with other problems in my life and I enjoy overcoming the fears through training. You are lucky to have gym members that are respectful, that helps a lot for sure. Also just ask your coach for direct advice all the time, he will give it to you for sure. This happens to me also, the coach is not giving me that much advice if I am not asking him all the time.

Probably the biggest problem with martial arts is that the coach wants to spend his time with his best fighters. Understandable. You have to put in a lot of work to let them know your serious and get the personal training that will make the big difference.

Yeah some coaches suck. You're supposed to do light sparring first to get used to working on your fundamentals. Maybe consider agreeing with one of your gym mates to have some light rounds. Get used to keeping your eyes open, not flinching, and pulling your hands back up after you punch. If the sparring is lighter you aren't as afraid to make mistakes and have more time to improve. Then when it's time for heavy sparring you'll know what to do. You can even request light sparring for 5-6 rounds after you get used to 3 for building up endurance.

I was taught in muay Thai to watch the chest. It helps me dehumanize the person an see feet an hands. Oddly I watched a couple mma fights an they are obsessed with eye contact.

My coach told me that squinting helps lessen the blink reflex and since I've been doing it I've had much less problem keeping my eyes on my opponent while being hit

No, you reduce area of sight. Way too easy to miss hooks or uppercuts. Even tho it’s a trick that may bring quick results, the results aren’t good enough. Just practice what’s said in this video

A pro I sparred with told me to grab behind my ear for single side blocks to the head. It allows you to see while still blocking if they double up turn to your blind side but still covers temple and chin. It's helped me a lot since. Love your content.

I’m 20 yrs old no boxing experience just started 2 months ago I don’t have a problem with my offense or combinations with the mitts or punching bag , yesterday was my first day sparring against a pretty well rounded boxer who also had some good experience and and I knew I had to defend myself a little more harder even though he was going light on me because it was my first time but still like when the punches was coming at me I didn’t really know what to do , cause it’s like a natural instinct I tend to cover up with the gloves not really having a clear peripheral vision on my opponent and I was still moving but I felt myself gassing out within 20-30 second in to the first round which was 2 minute rounds , my legs was shot and felt like I was easily going down if he would’ve landed a easy cross or a hook , I do want to get back in the ring and spar , just wanted to know exactly what should I do for my conditioning and cardio to improve thanks

Extremely helpful, I’ve been teaching myself how to fight and skipped some defensive things I should have covered. I competed in a kickboxing tournament and was great on offense but terrible defensively, turning away and everything but never discouraged from that just looking to correct it and this helps tremendously. As I'm beginning to get better in boxing I start to understand that defense is not only my biggest weakness but also what is the hardest to learn. You punch, you slip, roll, move your head, even dance, but you have only small windows to properly practice taking punches. Very helpful! I feel I’m at a bit of a disadvantage not training mma until I turned 22. But being able to work on striking outside of the gym as well is gonna be a game changer! Your channel is amazing. I am definitely gonna drill these

Your not at any disadvantage (your are slightly but don’t make it a big thing). I sparred the NATIONAL Champ at 147 pounds after 1 year months of boxing (I’m 24) and frankly I beat him up. Are you obsessed? Because if your not, it won’t matter what age you started Peace and Love

I’m a slim built 6’0 157 with a 76 inch reach and naturally athletic I’ve been boxing for 6 months now and luckily I grew up watching the sport so I was ahead of most but thank you for the videos because my main focus as of now is defense because with my reach and speed my goal is to get into a position where my physical gifts and defensive skills make me very difficult to hit in-turn making it a lot easier to counter and destroy dudes from the outside
