They can be, _if_ you find the right ammo and do a little trick called "torque tuning" on the action/takedown screw. That screw is the biggest Achilles Heel of the 10/22, because there's only ONE without a second one in the rear of the action! It creates a pivot point that alters your barrel harmonics/accuracy. They make kits to drill and tap a rear action screw, but that can be tricky too. Instead... take that Wheeler fat wrench and try shooting groups @ 10,20 and 30 inch pounds on that screw and you'll be _surprised_ at your differences in group sizes! Then try going back again and split the difference which torque direction it shot better, either 15 or 25 inch pounds and shoot groups again.👍

Victor Company's stock for the 10/22 has the ability to apply pressure to the tang. And they have a kit that basically stabs the rear of the receiver to remove that pivot from the solo action screw.

If anyone is interested in saving time and money building up a 10/22, order yourself a Kidd Innovations barrel and trigger, then drop it into a Victor Titan stock. I played with one of my 10/22's for ages, adding all sorts of different combinations. Once i found the combinations i liked, i duplicated the setup on my second 10/22, and as expected i yielded similar results. Now both of my 10/22's shoot dime size groups at 50yrds and they arent finicky about ammo, just an impact shift when switching between brands that are good, like CCI. Even Federal Automatch shot very well. I will agree with you about the Federal premium gold match, it's a terrible investment.

I held my own comps believe or not (i didnt know a whole lot about nrl22 but i hought an nrl 22 target setup etc). After about 2 comps shooting eley i ditch the rugger and bought a rimx. In my opinion a semi out rimfire will never be able to keep up with most decent factory bolt action 22lr rifle. 10/22s have their place but it's not in comps with 1inch targets at 100 yards etc.

I’m not sure how old mine was when I bought it back in 92’, or how many rounds it’s had through it, and I have no idea how many thousands of rounds that I’ve put through it over 30yrs, but it’s been my go to gun since I bought it, and I’ve had a lot of rimfires. It’s been in multiple configurations. I have 4-5 barrels (none of them “target” or bull barrels) for it including the factory barrel. But the factory barrel and the current barrel (basically a threaded factory barrel) , in it’s factory stock, can keep dime sized groups at 100 yards, and it’ll smack a squirrel sized target out past 175. I can stack bullets between 25-75. And I never use Federal Rimfire ammo for any kind of accuracy, The Winchester ammo has always shot well my favorite was the Power Point in 40grn. I use to buy it by the brick. They discontinued it back in the late 90’s (at least the packaging) as far as I know but I still have over 2000 rounds in hard boxes just for hunting with that gun I did find another Winchester round, can’t think of the name off hand, but it seems to be the same setup, load, bullet, whatever I’ve even taken it apart and weighed it out, but ill generally use that or CCIs at the range and save my original Power Points for showing off 😂. It’s by far the best rimfire I’ve ever owned. With the right glass those guns will perform phenomenally. Just an extremely accurate fun freakin gun.

If you want accuracy I would suggest pulling that suppressor off. they collect carbon and when you carry the rifle with the muzzle pointed up, carbon can fall back down into the bore and effect accuracy. If you are trying to mess with barrel harmonics then get a barrel tuner.

Just toook my 10/22 take down, 1 year later after beating it up not cleaning it, took it to range, zero still holds perfectly. Yes the torque screw play big roll. Especially if your like me and pull the gun into your shoulder with any muscle it will cause the barrel to shift very subtle if torque is too lose, and over tightening it also makes rounds more erratic. But once it’s tuned in, mark the screw frame.

The ultimates section of the Rimfire Central forum has many examples of 10/22 rifles that can shoot near 1/4" groups at 100 yards off a bench. You just have to bring the gun up to spec and get an accurate barrel. The brand of the barrel is less important that the qualities of the individual barrel. It's easier with a bolt gun but you can do it with a modified 10/22 if a shooter does his part.

Lots of good comments here. Very true about optimizing the action screw torque. -- I have a 1995 10/22 Target with the original hammer-forged barrel and its nice wood stock. Rather heavy. I had the Ruger bolt redone by CPC (Connecticut Precision Chambering), and installed the Kidd recoil spring and guide rod and the Kidd "Trigger Job" drop-in trigger kit. So for the gun + about $180 I have a 0.5 MOA gun at 100 yards. No kidding, pardon the pun. ;-) Shot two 5-shot groups at 100 yards with SK Pistol Match Special. First group was .70". Second was .50". Decided to not shoot any more groups as I was ecstatic with that result. This 10/22 humiliates all my bolt-action 22s, including two nice CZs. -- Strongly recommend you send your barreled action to CPC for the full tuneup. Bolt, trigger and barrel. THE best bang-for-buck in 10/22 improvement, IMO. You will love the improvement. Also IMO, what stock the action is in is the last consideration, to be done after all other mods are made. BTW the scope on the 10/22 for the above two groups was a $60 Chinese scope off Amazon, set at 24X. I used a cheap bipod and a rear bag.

@jonleone777 I got this from krg, Sir, the Bravo for 10/22 and our other Bravo options cannot switch the cheek riser thumb screw to the opposite side. The best solution for our lefty shooters is to replace the thumb screw with a M5x 25mm button head screw. We hope this information is helpful and I you have any other questions, please let us know! I’m going to get one once I get my rifle in.

Well I think your crazy, I went to my 1st benchrest match and shot against only bolt action rifles and I took 3rd place. The only upgrades i have is a ER Shaw barrel. some trigger work and cleaned the bolt. I used Ealey tennex and Ealey Match. And she shot pretty good. My next upgrade will be a KIDD bolt.
@PrecisionRifleNetwork Жыл бұрын
haha you've made some serious upgrades. of course it shot well.
@michaelbonanno9491 Жыл бұрын
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork I wouldn't call them serious upgrades. I didn't put in a custom trigger, I didn't change the bolt, It's a stock receiver, stock chassis. A 125.00 barrel and smoothing the stock trigger isn't serious upgrades.

I would say that even if your wooden stock does not shoot any better as far as looks goes I would switch back to the wooden stock I think it is 100% better looking than that can stock which looks cheap I would stick with the other one all day

My 1022 with old Tacsol barrel, Volquartsen trigger kit(3lbs), X22 Magpul stock, and shooting CCI standard velocity, i got .4 inch at 50yds. Im kinda surprised at your results with seemingly much better ammo. My 1022 shoots tighter than my RPRimfire at the moment, testing ammo right now.

The factory barrels aren't bad. Hammer forged on a mandrel, they can be pretty good. Generally have to get pretty spend-y to beat them. There is A LOT of paid review marketing telling us a barrel swap is the first thing to do. So you might find my opinion in the minority. But proper bedding is more important. Bedding can turn a dog into a real shooter even in the factory wood stock. A pencil barrel might look out of place in a chassis though.

The reason 22 target rifles are bolt/single shot is the bolt thrust when fired is consistent. A semi-auto recoils to work the action-it is not 100% consistent in recoil/movement of the bolt----using green tag cci helps as the ignition is more consistent, but is not a miracle maker-the fact is most people cannot shoot well enough to reach the full potential of the rifle-Buy a true target rifle and be amazed-shoot the eye out of a fly.

For many years I shot 3 position rifle with Anshutz rifles and I think you can improve your groups with a better shooting position. You seem to be all cramped up and not looking through the center of your eye. If you have a more upright, relaxed position I'll bet your groups would improve.

@@PrecisionRifleNetwork it’s fun to trick out a 10/22 with cool stuff but by the time your into a high end barrel,stock,trigger group and the other essentials your beyond the price of a CZ or savage that are out of the box accurate or a good used competition rifle. 10/22’s are great for blasting off a brick of ammo and that’s why I sold mine!
