CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Blain (Jesse Ventura) gets shot, but Mac (Bill Duke) picks up the gatling gun and blows the forest to smithereens.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) has a code of honor which he will not violate, even when his life depends on it. Paradoxically, his code of honor gives him the backbone to survive as a military special forces operative when he is sent on a covert mission to rescue another group which was sent in to assist some nefarious U.S. government plan in a Latin American country. Once there, he encounters an old army buddy (Carl Weathers) who has gotten too deep in the CIA's good graces for Dutch's comfort. When he and his team go into the jungle to rescue the others, they get involved in a pitched battle with local guerillas, but they are more than capable of besting these vicious fighters. However, not long after that, they encounter signs that the equally capable men they were sent to rescue were all killed unawares and in an unusually gruesome fashion. Given their training, it should have been impossible for anyone to best all of these commando warriors. Soon, the men from Dutch's own team get picked off one by one, as they grow aware that they are up against something uncanny, not of this world, something that is hunting them for sport. Why? Because their skills make them worthy opponents for the perfectly camouflaged Predator. This carefully paced action movie was given poor reviews by many movie critics, but was sufficiently satisfying for its (largely male) audiences that a successful sequel (Predator 2) was released in 1990.

That's actually the way it works. When an enemy is dug into the jungle, if one person sees the enemy who then disappears back into the bush, everyone opens up in the direction he was spotted. Not for this long and using this much ammo, but multiple people definitely throw a lot of rounds downfield.

I watched it in 1989, in the USSR, in a video salon. These are special mini-cinemas in which Soviet citizens watched Western films in secret from the authorities. There were 40-50 people in the hall. Special atmosphere and very bad translation. There is a whole big culture of translations of your films in the USSR. Many iconic and cult translators of that era - Gavrilov, Volodarsky, etc. The first time we watched this movie with a friend, we ran out of the salon before Arnie's battle with the Predator. It was shock and horror. But on the next visit, they watched it to the end and already got high on everything that was happening.

Thats what you call true brotherhood. The fact that any given guy that fights beside you could demolish a jungle, not knowing who or what the hell youre shooting at, just knowing that if hes shooting, hes got a damn good reason, and you and the rest of your team jump in and mag-dump with him, requires the utmost trust and dedication no matter what the cost or outcome. A minigun is chambered for 7.62x51 NATO. Each cartridge weighs 0.853oz. The rate of fire is 6000 rounds per minute. In the "contact" scene of Predator (1987) Mac (Bill Duke) fires the minigun continuously for exactly 44 seconds, discharging 4400 rounds of ammunition at which point the weapon cycles but ceases to fire. That means that Blain (Jesse Ventura) was carrying 234.575 lbs of ammo in his pack. The minigun itself weighs 85lbs for a combined weight of 319.575 lbs. Miniguns are electrically operated and would also require a massive battery (likely in excess of 100 lbs) and produce as much force when fired as 50-60 high powered rifles. What does this mean? This scene is completely authentic and you need to eat your damn Wheaties. Welcome to the 80s ;)
