That is one of then most valid thing anybody has ever said. I am in the middle of a manco build right now for my step son. And the thing that gives me the motivation to finish it is thinking about when I was 12. and the only thing I wanted to do was ride go carts. I did not have one unfortunately. But I can give that joy to somebody else!

Nice. Totally simple. I hooked a spring over that spring's coils when I was experimenting and got the same result. Actually, I later put a spring that had a little less resistance to it because the engine would rpm so fast that the final drive belt was slipping in my 212 Frankenstein moped. The difference in power was amazing. I had no idea the governor was slugging the engine down so much. I looked at several vids to see if anyone had the governor wreck from the xtra rpm, and guys commented on running many of these engines with no issues ever. Mike

@@andreas6081 Yes. I ended up taking a paper clip section and linking it to the arm over the spring- giving a half inch of free play for the spring to still work- limiting rpm to 5000 or so. The power increase is remarkable, the governor does kick in, but way higher. As I wanted. Mike

@@mtwseneca how long you drove it like this? Does it damage the engine alot? So if I understand you correctly it means it will no longer be a "gap" when you give gas? In other words instead of pulling gas and then wait until it responds it will responds instantly?

@@andreas6081 No Andreas, instead of a zip tie that binds up the spring - my fix is like a zip tie that is loose- allowing the governor spring to work at a higher speed only.

Yo so i did this with mine and a couple of my friends engines and nobody had any problems until my friends briggs locked up and had the piston brake, the other people who did this (including me) all took the zipties off that same day, i have the preadtor 212 do yall think ill be safe to put to zip tie back on, im just really scared of it blowing up on me and my nice mini bike.

You can do it but don't full throttle for long periods only short Bursts. The governor is made so the engine doesn't over rev and blow up they are removed on racing karts because it is short Bursts of acceleration

@@ilovecheesecake516 hard to say. I have about seven predator engines now and haven’t had an issue with any of them for this mod. This is surprising because we were on ours almost wide-open continuously. And one of the engines is about five years old I think. What kills the mostly out here in California’s gasoline. Seems like you let it sit for a month or so and it’ll clog up the carburetor

The governor works on centrifugal force with metal weights. Even with the zip tie on the the governor’s set to govern at 3600- 3800 rpm so all this is doing is pulling on the governor’s arm more. If you bypass it or remove it you could get in the 5000 rpm range

With the zip tie, you're essentially bypassing some of the governor's function. The zip tie applies extra force to the governor arm, making it harder for the weights to pull the throttle back at high RPMs. However, since the internal governor mechanism is still in place, it's not fully removed, and the engine won't rev as high as if the governor were completely eliminated. You're probably maxing out at around 4200-4400 RPM with the zip tie instead of the ~3600 RPM factory limit.

@@evjsrideandrepair8279 It DOES gain horsepower. Predator 212 engines make nearly 9 horsepower on a dyno with a simple governor delete.

What if you just disconnect the spring you zip tied ? Would you bypass the governor completely?

No bc when the governor gets to higher rpm the waits spread kinda like the clutch then it pulles the governor arm back this makes it not able to pull it back there for it revs higher

Yeah. You can’t completely bypass the governor unless you take the motor down and pull the governor out of the motor. This just allows you to open your butterfly valve all the way. If you took even a minute to study and understand how the motor works, and how the governor works, you would already know this.

No I’ve ran three of these engines full throttle for a while and they’re solid. Just don’t have it full throttle for like an hour lol and always check the oil

full throttle is perfectly fine just as long as it’s not for 2+ minutes. you can also get a tachometer to make sure your not going over 7200 rpm

Bypassing the governor and running the engine at higher RPMs with the governor gear still inside the engine it's equal to play a gambling game: The governor gear is a plastic gear with 3 metallic flaps hinged on it, and it's known to frag out if spooled beyond the maximum RPMs that the engine is designed to run as stock; should that happen, plastic and metal bits will spread all over inside the engine block, and if something get stuck inbetween the camshaft drive and driven gears, neither Flexseal won't fix it. It's better to completely remove that gear, it's an easy task to perform. That opens up for you the path for a billet conrod, which will be able to withstand the higher RPMs, as the stock isn't reliable enough.
