PREDIABETES…Let’s talk about!!! You can’t discuss diabetes without discussing it. According to the CDC, one third of American adults are categorized as “prediabetic.” That’s 88 million people y'all! The sad part about it is that a large amount of people do not even know that they have prediabetes. So I felt it was only necessary for me to spend some time over the next few post discussing prediabetes.
For today’s video, I will give an overview over prediabetes and what we as nurse practitioners should be aware of. Some may feel this is common knowledge information but I would beg to differ because if that was the case for all providers we wouldn’t be in the predicament that we are in…1/3 of our adult population in this category. So let’s get in to it!

Welcome to Kim E. The Diabetes NP Channel!!! My name is Kim E. and I have a love and passion for prediabetes and Diabetes Mellitus Type 2. I went on a journey a while ago to build upon my knowledge of the disease and found it difficult to find concise and useful information. I realized at that moment that we, as nurse practitioners, needed a resource like this. As I began learning more about the disease and the new advances in education and management, I wanted to be apart of the solution for my fellow colleagues. If this is something that interests you, please come along with me as we grow in our knowledge of Diabetes to better serve our patients.

This is so helpful!! SO MUCH of my teaching is surrounding this pre stage, but most of the resources are for post diagnosis. Thank you Kim!

I know right! I do agree! The research tells us we can stop diabetes in it’s tracks and yet the resources are all for the person with diabetes.

It really depends on the person & their lifestyle. For some people, it never does because they implement lifestyle changes immediately & stick to it.

I have a question. What if the A1c is normal but fasting glucose is elevated to 101?

Same, but my fasting was 95. My doctor put me on Janumet and I’m exercising 30 minutes every day and sticking to my meal plan. I’ve lost 30 lbs in 12 weeks so far. I’m hoping the test in a few months shows progress. My A1c was 5.19.
