Welcome to Kim E. The Diabetes NP Channel!!! My name is Kim E. and I have a love and passion for prediabetes and Diabetes Mellitus Type 2. I went on a journey a while ago to build upon my knowledge of the disease and found it difficult to find concise and useful information. I realized at that moment that we, as nurse practitioners, needed a resource like this. As I began learning more about the disease and the new advances in education and management, I wanted to be apart of the solution for my fellow colleagues. If this is something that interests you, please come along with me as we grow in our knowledge of Diabetes to better serve our patients. Submit questions & video requests to info@ellisdiabetes.com.

Thank you so very much. What should a person do if they get what you called Hypoglycemic. I was just put on Glipizide 2.5mg 1 time a day on 3-5-21 because I couldn’t tolerate Metformin. I also saw that the FDA pulled Metformin. Can you please give me any information on metformin and why the FDA pulled it. I may go back because you scared me on taking Glipizide. LOL. 3-8-21

Is there any specific time frame or "warning sign" of when the pancreas is becoming overworked and when we should consider switching to another medication for better coverage? Is this just when you see hyperglycemia despite being on the medication for a period of time and previously having good glycemic control?
@TheDiabetesNP
@TheDiabetesNP 4 жыл бұрын
Good question, Lindsey! It really depends on the diabetic. A person with long standing diabetes or undiagnosed may have much Little reserve than a newly diagnosed diabetic. You could always consider drawing a C-peptide to indirectly measure the insulin production since it’s co-secreted with insulin.
