Yea, they are ugly muthers. In California, there is a fish called a Lingcod. Look fairly similar. Unfortunate for them, they are extremely tasty so targeted heavily. They can actually have blue meat. Weird but still tasty.

Yea, they are definitely bottom dwellers that will come up and smack a lure. They are aggressive little dudes. I think some one mentioned earlier that it would be a bad thing if they got to be 3-4'.

Another great video, and the live narration really adds to the adventure. I'm not that talkative, thus the voice overs when editing. Be careful on the yak with those winds - hope you're wearing a vest. I got caught in a front coming thru yesterday. 20-30mph winds had the Bay rolling with 3-4+' ers (crest to trough). Took a severe pounding trying to get back the 10 miles to port. Not what my KW was designed for.
@KeyWestKayakFishing8 жыл бұрын
Yea, I hate those North winds down here. If anything goes wrong, I'm not making it back against that wind and current. The winds were reported to be way down on Saturday so I made another shot at it. The slop was worse. It was miserable. I made the run all the way to the outside, and said screw it and high tailed it right back in. Those North winds just sketch me out. Yea, I carry more safety equipment than most boats.

Hey Steve, been watching your vids now for 4 days straight now! Had surgery a little while ago, stuck in a wheelchair, so I'm Really happy I found your vids! Thanx for all of the tips and technics. I now know why I haven't caught a lot of fish in the mangroves. Thanx again for your expert tutelage! I've got a couple questions for you: 1st. To me just another fun day. Great job look at the end result nice meal you have. Hey Steve have you heard about the sablefish? I used to catch them in my country around the bay when the high tide was coming in also I used to catch hog fish over hard bottom with live fiddler crabs maybe you could try some day. Sayonara tomo.:-):-):-):-):-)
@KeyWestKayakFishing8 жыл бұрын
Never heard of them. Looked them up. I guess in the US they are called Black Cod. I guess they are common to the Pacific Ocean, our other coast. Hog fish we have. Very popular. They are shellfish eater so really sweet meat like lobster. They used to be a spear fish only, but now they have found out you can catch them with live Shrimp.

@KeyWestKayakFishing8 жыл бұрын
Inshore is generally Needlefish. Offshore more likely Houndfish. Houndfish are dark blue. Needlefish are whitish light brown and smaller. Not much use for either one of them. The only fish that really eat them are Barracuda.

Man those lizard fish are annoying but pretty cool. Do you know if you can catch Spanish mackerel in mid Florida in November?
@saltflies25538 жыл бұрын
fishing USA1 Secret: Lizardfish are the best bait for Spanish. Small and either troll them or cast and retrieve. And yes they will be everywhere
@AyoO-br4sg8 жыл бұрын
Salt Flies Thanks very much for the tip! When I go to Florida I will try that.
@war19808 жыл бұрын
Lizardfish are decent bait for kings, but the best bait for kings is still small Spanish Mackerel. Lizardfish do not make good bait for Spanish. If by "mid-Florida" you mean Citrus, Hernando, or Levy counties then yes, Pasco heats up late November into early December. If you want to focus on size over quantity, then move the time table up a few weeks as the larger fish lead the migrations.

It's a Suzuki 2.5 hp 4-stroke. It's a pretty popular model for the converting yakkers as it only weight 29 pounds. Lost of guys are using them these days. Totally extends your fishing range as well as quality fishing time.

I'd be happy if I went fishing and even caught stuff, let alone catch something that is good eating. Out of the dozens of times I've gone fishing (on several different beaches/jetties), I've only ever caught something good enough to eat a handful of times, probably below 10 times in 5 years. I wish I lived somewhere like the keys where you can catch good fish from the land decently easily.
@coraldecuba66168 жыл бұрын
where do you live?
@KeyWestKayakFishing8 жыл бұрын
Keep an eye on how other fisherman are doing. If you see someone who is catching, talk to them. See what the technique they are using. Most of the time people are cool about that. Even here people get skunked all the time. If you don't do everything right, they can be very picky, even here. Just keep working at it and adjusting your technique. Once you have it figured out, then things become a lot more fun. Even the stuff I show on these videos have taken a lot of time and effort to get nailed down. Like anything, you gotta put in the time. Good luck.
