Observe how the U.K. metalcore warriors utilize digital stomps, profiling amps, and modern pickups to break necks and ignite pits with an old-school aggression.

Don't Miss a Rundown: bit.ly/RIgRundo...
Before the band’s first Nashville show since the early 2000s, guitarist Adam Christianson and guitarist/tech Martyn Evans talk shop with PG’s Perry Bean to illuminate their burgeoning taste for gear and tone.
Knowing the style of heavy music Adam Christianson and the rest of Architects play would lead you to believe his main influence for his signature LSL Bari Bone T-style would be Jim Root of Slipknot but pump the brakes. The native Canuck actually is a staunch Merle Haggard fan. Furthermore, his T-style is a 24-fret, 27.5"-scale baritone to compensate for the band’s low tunings and the saggy string tension. The tonewoods include a roasted ash body with a roasted maple neck. This one is loaded with a set of Bare Knuckle Ragnarok pickups and sees action during songs tuned down to F#. He picks with Dunlop Jazz IIIs, and all of his guitars implement sets of custom-gauged D’Addario strings. For F# guitars, he uses .011-.015-.020w-.030-.042-.072 and for G# he swaps the 6th string for a .070, and for C# he uses a .060.

I've seen that Radial JX44 on a lot of big touring rigs, but still don't quite understand how it can be programmed. There is a programmable switch sold separately which they don't seem to be using, but the JX44 also doesn't seem to have any sort of MIDI control either, so how are they doing it if the guitar tech is out at the front also playing?
@TheExplosionProject
@TheExplosionProject 4 жыл бұрын
This is the thing I don't understand either. In terms of midi control, Even Tom's original board didn't have any of his strymons plugged into their midi inputs and he didn't even use a midi controller. I've seen a picture of him with a looper/switcher on the floor in front of his board once, but still without midi control. It just doesn't make sense unless they're just manually banking up on the strymons but why would they have the looper/switcher without midi and why the JX44? There's just something that doesn't add up here.

One thing I'm still confused about: how does a 27.5inch scale guitar hold a low F# with good tension with a .72 gauge string?? With my 7 string with a 27inch scale, I need an 80 gauge for a low F# for it not to feel floppy, it's just tension-y enough to feel solid. I don't feel like that extra .5inch on the scale would compensate that much for a .72 gauge string to have equal tension, unless I'm totally wrong. Based on a string tension calculator I've used, it would still feel floppier than my setup; a .72gauge on a 27.5inch scale would still be a little light. Does anyone have any experience with this? Would love to hear others' experiences with how they handle low tunings and record tight heavy rhythm guitars.

Definitely. If you listen to the vast majority of Holy Hell, Lost Forever... and All Our Gods it figures that they would need to. When I saw them live in Brighton so many of their intros in particular feature electronic-y/ atmospheric sounds that can't be produced live. That said, Ali (bassist) has recently started using sample pads up there and kudos must go to the two guitarists because they do produce a lot of the more atmospheric pad sounds live on guitar. It's a mixture I guess, but if you listen to their last three albums, it makes sense for them to use a click.

Youre looking for something around 130-65, many brands make a 4 string heavy set like that(ernie ball,dr,cleartone). Or just get your favorite brands 5 string set and only use the heavies four. You will definitely need a setup,probably need to adjust the trussrod and intonation,and you might need a new nut too, good luck!
