Surly Wookie are... are you asking if the manufacturers of an instrument get paid extra when someone skilled uses it to make money? Do hammer makers get extra when you sell a home? Do lumberjacks make a commission when an author writes a book on paper pressed from their pulp? This was sarcasm right? I’m having a hard time telling these days..

Hello Tom, Crappy pedal developer here (aka XP-300 DSP Engineer). Sorry that you feel that we ripped you off. It wasn't intentional. During the brainstorming sessions, we discussed all kinds of ideas. What made it into the pedal were synth swells, sample hold, Time Warp, reverse delay, apreggiators, pixelators, ring modulators, resonators and the infamous Auto Whammy. I was the main developer or at least had a hand in everything but the resonators. I wasn't familiar enough with your catalog at the time to know it was similar some stuff you did (I now own everything you've done with RATM). Our Product Manager was more of a Jimmy Page / Steve Howe kind of guy so he might not have known either. If it makes you feel better, you probably made more money off of the Whammy than Digitech did. Any of us who are in a creative fields are all too familiar with criticism and I've certainly received my share in various forms throughout the years. It just stings a little more when it comes from someone who you respect and whose music you love. Sincerely, Jim

Based on what Tom describes in the video, here are the ways he manipulates some of his coolest effects for particular songs and techniques: Digitech Whammy Pedal + Pickup Selector/Toggle Switch: For the "Know Your Enemy" intro set the Digitech Whammy Pedal to the 5th (interval) Harmony setting and rapidly manipulate the pickup selector switch between pickups, with one pickup's volume rolled off and the other on full volume. (Note that on this "Arm the Homeless guitar Tom does not have a 'killswitch' installed. Instead he merely turns down the volume on one pickup and rapidly switches between them. Tom explains this in other videos. Note also that this will probably wear out your pickup selector switch eventually). See 3:16 in the video. Digitech Whammy Pedal + Pickup Selector/Toggle Switch: For sheets of white noise effect in "Bullet in the Head" set Whammy Pedal to +2 Octaves and manipulate the Pickup Selector Switch. See 3:32 in the video. Digitech Whammy Pedal + Boss DD3: For the solo in Like a Stone use Morello's BOSS DD3 Long Delay setting shown at 0:50 in the video plus have the Whammy Pedal set to +2 Octaves. See 4:00 in the video. Wah Pedal + BOSS DD3 + Pickup Selector/Toggle Switch: To emulate Tom's DJ Scratch Effect use Morello's BOSS DD3 Long Delay setting shown at 0:50, push the Wah all the way down, and manipulate the Pickup Selector Switch with one pickup's volume turned down. See 6:22 in the video. Wah Pedal + Digitech Whammy + BOSS DD3 + Patch Cable: To reproduce Tom's Patch Cable Magic use Morello's BOSS DD3 Long Delay Settings, don't depress the Digitech Whammy Pedal and leave it in a Stationary Position set at +1 or +2 Octaves, and manipulate the Wah while unplugging the Patch Cable, and touching the Patch Cable Tip to Anything (hand or guitar etc.). See 6:57 in the video.

True story: One time I bought some pedals from a guy. It had a Space Station in it. Literally the first time I plugged it in, I heard a knock at the door. It was a detective who was running down some gear that was stolen from a store. Sure enough, that pedal was on the list and I had to hand them all over. Other than that, this video is the only time I've really ever seen one.

The guy is a genius, a legend, witty and on top of that so very humble and always so energized. *Rage Against The Machine* was pioneering and different in so many ways just like Nirvana was too. It will always trigger massive emotions and memories of this crazy time in my life. The nineties were something else.. One day one of my best friends walked inside my apartment carrying a brand new cd 💿 and said play this.. I had a real powerhouse of a music system so I always played things ridiculously loud. (total understatement;) we went through this whole first album track by track completely in awe.. when my friend wanted to leave I wanted to ask if I could copy it but he just cut me off and said “keep it” I bought two of them ;-) he was that kind of friend.. one of those days of your youth you don’t forget when getting older. I listened to an insane amount of music in different genres but *Rage Against The Machine* was definitely in my top albums that I’ve literally played and played for years.. Also all those idiots that can’t or won’t spell the bands legendary name because they are too lazy or can’t be bothered to type a few words are definitely NOT REAL FANS imo.

It's impressive he keeps the same gear through all these years . If i was a pro like him i'd have tons of different guitars and multi fx units and amps , just because i love those things. I think it says a lot about him as a truly creative musician
