The milage of the locomotive is calculated not as kilometers per liter but as liters per minute. Usually the tank capacity is not more than 1000 litres. Just imagine how they guzzle the fuel even if it is not running. Sometimes the locomotive is put in idle mode atleast 30 minutes prior to departure of the train

Agar bus se compare kare toh karib 800 passenger bus me a jaynge lekin iske half km travel kar payga equal quantity diesel me. Our pollution bhi kai guna zayda hoga. Isliye ships and trains are the most efficient and least polluting way of transport.
