@@whammo11224 If I compare x-plane on vulkan to p3d5 (via YT) I still see the micro-stutters. DX12 is like OpenGL: always too late to render. I appreciate the vid and the optimism. Though all I see is the same old FSX assets being sold over and over again with no gain in stability and performance. Same old platform. FPS in this vid were fluctuating constantly from 30 to 50 and even in the 20's in brief moments, which indicates lag... stutters and lower than average performance even without maxed settings. Not to mention the sim crashing. There is nothing smooth about it unless you look and fly straight in one direction and never pan around or turn the aircraft and fly at a higher altitude. Could only imagine what would happen on a flight from say Vancouver to LAX. Lockheed have exhausted this platform long ago and just keep cashing in on it. I stopped supporting the company long ago. X-Plane may have it's quirks though it performs solid as a rock and is very well optimised. And you can't argue it's flight dynamics and it's atmosphere out of the box. You can achieve 60 or 75FPS constantly ( Depending on your specs) when synced to your monitors' refresh rate of either 60 or 75. No stutters or lag whatsoever. Not trying to rain on Lockheeds parade but they really are cashing in on their re-releases of P3D. There's only so much paint you can spray on a panel before it becomes too thick and begins to run. They need to just charge a small fee for an upgrade because that's essentially all it is. There's nothing revolutionary about it and never has been. I will continue with X-Plane until MFS2020 is released.

Thanks for this upload Q8Pilot. However, I am not that sold on v5. Textures, albeit improved a lot, still look too cartoon-ish to me. Another evolution, rather than revolution. X-plane has its weak spots (major one: no default winter textures), but otherwise still feels and looks better (to me at least; especially ground textures and flight model wise). I am holding on for FS2020, that seems to be the real game-changer. If that can deliver on its promises, and today's PCs can deliver stable fps/performance, it is no-brainer really. Only thing at that point is to link it to Aerowinx PSX and I am set.

What is MS2020 gonna cost though????.....probably pay per flight.
@alippay24 жыл бұрын
@@nukenabber7228 I am not sure how much it will cost. Assuming that you get much better graphics, good performance, and significantly improved default scenery, I would say that north of USD 75.00 is a reasonable price. Hello! I realise this vid is a bit older, but I'm glad to see you still make videos. I also wanted to respond to a lot of the disappointed comments. I partly disagree. Sure, a lot of the world textures and the way land classes are used is somewhat outdated, but I think that goes past the point of what Lockheed/Prepar3d is trying to do here. If you look at their website you can really see that what they are aiming for is a multi disciplinary simulation platform that can bring together all branches of the military. Private simmers are a nice source of income but never were the primary reason for them to buy FS from Microsoft. The contract in fact explicitly forbade that. And so far the majority of changes have been under the hood: 64b, DirectX12, improved weather engine, better support for multi-modal simulation (land/sea/air), VR support etc. It may not look much better than it did 4 years ago land-wise but do not underestimate the work they have put in. So I think that explains and warrants the price. And I agree with you the weather and atmospheric conditions look absolutely great. Having served in the navy I feel this comes closest I have seen so far to actually looking in the distance on a ship. What they have created so far is a basis that is ready for future development. I think it holds a lot of promise. And let's be honest, companies like OrbX were always much better at making the world look good anyway. Thanks for another great vid!

This is a really well done review. I gave up P3D 4.2 when I switched to X-Plane. Honestly, I didn't expect v5 to offer much and, even though I do see quite a bit good about v5, I'm not thinking to spend any time with it. Their Achilles Heal's here are 1) the lack of photoreal (hugely important). 2) The number of addons you have to install to make it look good and usable (I hate maintenance). Still, visually, apart from photoreal, it looks really nice. Seems much clearer than the previous versions and the sky is nice (want to see what flying in solid overcast is like...want to see what night lighting is like up high and down low). Very impressed by how much they've improved performance. But is it enough to drag me back? Not unless they get photoreal and make maintenance simpler.

@Frost Problem is with P3D, You need to spend around £1000 more to make it LOOK good. With x plane 11, there is a vast array of freeware which is high quality (ORTHO XP (GROUND), Zibo Mod 737. I recently move from P3D to X Plane, and IMO it's better value for money. I'm currently doing what the majority of people are doing and sticking with X PLANE 11 until MSFS 2020 Gets released.

@Frost I have currently a licence for V4. Maybe I didn't fine tuned everything. I tried a couple of flights with the mooney. You can't even operate the gear handle. And the sceneries are just horrible, they are much more realistic in X-Plane. I just have no desire to throw away 80$ again for V5. I wait til I see some videos from users to see how they are doing with it. Even the Cessna in the official Lockheed video looks like a toy...

So glad you're back. As all the sims show signs of moving forward, and the videos proliferate, I still ask myself, after all these years: Why do I care what the sims look like from outside the plane in flight? I mean, while these views look nice, I doubt if I were to buy a real plane I'd ask, "Yeah, but how does it look from 50 meters away while I'm flying?" Just wondering!!

All i see here in most comments (not talking about the video) are XP fanboys without any idea of the tech behind either sim. Its bad.... amazing comments... the ones says MSFS is build from ground up fresh, the other one tries to tell us XP would run in 75 fps throughout, the next one says v5 has same performance as fsx and the next one is just mimimiing. Noone is forcing you to fly in p3d but everyone who has it himself realized by now that the performance, in every situation possible, is WAY higher than v4.5. While at the same time the terrain is more detailed, loads in a further radius and has more atmospheric stuff happening. If you turn off Truesky the performance is near double of that of v4 in quite a few situations. Besides that... (this one really makes me mad some time) why is everyone always judging pure P3D in vanilla when it comes to visuals? What is your XP without ortho or XVision and AS/Xenviro and whatnot. Please, if anyone is trying to tell me that vanilla XP looks amazing i wont take him serious. No reason to discuss with such ppl. You XP guys have exactly 1 argument that i let count and that is that there is way more freeware available. And that maybe the flightmodel is better (though this one can be discussed either.... so many planes behave like wild gooses in XP.... theres not too much that can called realistic. Infact there is 1 known to me, the TBM.). Does the sim have more possibilities for the flightmodel? Probably. Do devs use that potential? Not at all... A full blown P3D will always blow any XP out of the window, doesnt matter how much ortho he has installed. Ortho is flawed anyway, different colors in tiles, lowres when near ground (if one doesnt have X TB of free space to make ZL18 tiles), looks even worse than P3D in night and many more flaws. 90% of freeware that always everyone is talking about looks bad, its that easy. It simply looks bad....And besides that, ortho isnt everything either.... Why we not talk about weather? I know i know.... Xenviro is amazing. (...). Is a sim like i talk about immensely expensive? Yes it is.... But if someone doesnt want to pay the money he should always put the word "vanilla" in his statement when comparing XP to P3D. Otherwise some comments are laughable.... sorry. Just a few words from someone who HAS X TB of ortho, all 4 sims and is using P3D 80% and XP11 10%, the rest goes into DCS. And this 80% i choose for many reasons.... not because im biased.
@silviu4214 жыл бұрын
I agree specifically with the "freeware" part (not necessarily related to XP): who cares about freeware? My first sim was FSX:SE and my first serious plane (besides some cheap GA bundled with FSX) was PMDG 737. A flight simulation takes already such a big toll from me, especially time invested to learn, that I won't waste my time with free mods. I have not even installed Zibo's mod (which I'm sure it's good) yet but I've already bought the JARDesign A320, just for starters, before turning to FF. I like to use a professional product (which I pay money for) because I always follow this rule: it is worth how much money you pay for it.
