For my first Eberron Campaign which I'm prepping now, I chose the Soulmonger from Tomb of Annihilation as the campaign's main issue, set in a Warhammer-style Hive City The campaign will take place inside this gargantuan city with it's innumerable levels and districts, aswell as the toxic industrial wasteland surrounding it. Think of toxic bogs and broken down machinery, infested by undead and dangerous mutated wildlife underneath a darkened sky blotted by sickly unnatural clouds.

While I try not to take myself to seriously, I too appreciate a professional approach to DMing to respect peoples time.

The "rolling bulletpoints" from session to session is an ingenious way to keep continuity from session to session while still weaving in new things.

Yes sir! I'm a huge fan obviously. I think for someone like me, who's all over the place creatively, it helps me tighten the circle around my thoughts. I'll deviate from that formula from time to time but overall, it's how I do.

Thanks a lot, I finally finished reading Eberron for my first time playing 5E and DMing, but I was completely lost of how to create a campaign for my friends. This really fleshed it out for me

I‘m currently working on my very first campaign as a DM and this noire/ pulp/ steampunk setting, Eberron comes with, really did not want to go out of my head... the fact that the mass of Eberron content we got are just inspiring pieces that need to be put together by YOU, the DM, just overstrained me in the first place. Thank you so much for this simple but very effective „How-to-start“-advice ❤

I'll say this as someone that has been a DM for over 40 years. Take it slow. It's daunting to get started because you want so badly to do well, to give what others have seen online and otherwise. I'm very glad the video helped give you a start!

I kinda want to try this ultra-High quality way of prepping. Among my group of friends, I usually am the biggest prepper in terms of DMing, the others are much better at just Improving away 90% of a session. But, I think that also makes me better at having planned content and I think it'd be worthwhile to try something like this even if nobody else ever sees it.

Each DM and each table has to find what works best, but it's just something that's formed over 35+ years of doing this. I'm always a campaign sort of guy rather than a 1 or 2 session adventure/module guy. Therefore, I had to find an elegant way to wrangle in the creative mind. Glad it inspired and if you have any questions, throw 'em my way and I'll help out!

Funny enough… I just had to… I’m a minute in and you’ve already stated two of the most difficult hurdles in running an Eberron campaign. 1) where to start??? 2) the development of cannon ( which is actually by design) I’ve kept mine going for about ten months now. But this campaign has been at least two years in the making. If memory serves me correctly my players are playing version 5 of what I wanted my Eberron campaign to be. The thing I always ended coming back to is: “Is this where I want to start?” I tried a campaign centered in Sharn, I tried so many other avenues and ultimately I just had to pick what I was comfortable with as a DM. The first arc of this campaign was almost a wild goose chase centered around Dragonborn culture in Q’ barra where the players found their ultimate nemesis. An overlord by the name Dral Khatuur and the harbingers that will ultimately release her from her prison. When starting an Eberron campaign just pick something that you and your players are into and let it evolve from there. Remember that there’s a reason why the term “ well in MY Eberron” exists. This setting was made for all us DM’s to have our own ideas about what happens when and where. I suggest you let your players in on that bit of magic too, especially when you run out of ideas. Eberron is an amazing and vast world so have fun and if you come up on writers block, if you’re running the campaign right, your players will fill in the blanks for you! My last tidbit is when your running an Eberron campaign and are improvising as much as I know most of us are, (if you have player consent) record your session audio!! That has been such a huge help for me! Yes I know a pretty substantial amount of Eberron lore but what did I say three weeks ago about this one thing to get the rogue intrigued? I can’t remember! Record your sessions with player consent yall!!

I was thinking about trying to create a dragon focused campaign set within the world of Eberron using material presented in Jetpack7's Legendary Dragons book. I believe this will prove useful to such an endeavor.

I'd never heard of jetpack7s book. Perhaps I need to take a look!
@purpleslushie4 жыл бұрын
@@AllThingsLich I believe it involves Gary Gygax's son. They've made another book for God's and goddesses and another for minions and masters. They're all 5e compatible but a lot of the dragons are considerably high level. Each one is fleshed out with its own 1-2 pages of unique lore and stat block and they come with exceptional art. A few KZbin channels have reviews for the content and the books do not disappoint.

Would you say you can go completely of the rails with the world building and enemy's, if you stick to the skeleton structure of the system and story, and type it out clearly for your players? I just really want to use some of the archetypal points from ebberon to create a certain storyline

Roll with the Eberron storylines. Just pick one. See what your players latch on to. They will inform your next directions

First time DM here and imma be honest I have no idea what to do im trying to run eberron and somehow bring back orcus with my character but I have no idea how to actually start
@AllThingsLich2 жыл бұрын
what questions do you have. Let's start there.
@elijahcole23822 жыл бұрын
Went to my local library and found mordenkianens tome of foes, I guess my question is how do I make my tiefling necromancer a son of orcus
@AllThingsLich2 жыл бұрын
@@elijahcole2382 I assume you are a player. If that's the case, tying a tiefling necro into a world-level and iconic power such as Orcus is up to your DM. Clear it with them. As to story bits, here's a couple of ideas: A) You've ventured deep into the Abyss, in this or a former life, searching for answers. Answers were found, but you didn't like them. You share blood with a legendary power - Orcus himself. You radiate bits of undeath, one of Orcus' domains. Your skin is pale (always has been or this is a new thing), and your fingers long, with grossly protruding knuckles, almost skeletal. You've gained no mechanical advantage to your bloodline but story wise, it's cool. B) You have many questions and few answers. You made a pact long ago. An ancient being answered - the promise of cataclysmic power held in front of you. Your task is cryptic but a vision tells you of things burning, ash, and a skeletal army. As the vision fades, you hear, "through ritual and ruin you'll make the sky bleed. All the while, I'll watch over you my son."

Enjoyed the content, and give or take the manner it was given. A bit abrasive, yes. Some constructive criticism, lose the hand gesturing in the videos. Visionally distracting from your verbal narrative. Takes the literal eyes of your audience away from your actual discussion. Thus losing your audience. That's just the instructor in me pointing out some helpful adjustments for you. I of course realize how old this video is, but maybe you'll see it and adjust your future content for the audience. That is all. Thanks!

Here is a great free resource for preparing setting campaigns. There is an Ebberon example in the guide. It is designed for Dungeon World, but with a few tweaks, can be used with any setting: www.drivethrurpg.com/product/266015/Session-Zero-Issue-8--Adventure-Conversion-and-Creation-for-Dungeon-World
