School break time in 70's i would go sometimes to library. On the shelf was a book on steam locos and details how they worked. I then realised the book was aimed at loco model builders (6 inch wheel castings gave it away). Was amazed to think people would build such. Back then many men worked in machine shops and building a live steam loco a hobby in the garden shed.

i still cant believe that this was filmed at a place that ive been to uncountable times. the great thing about this place is that you can just drive in, park, buy a ticket and get on a train. its completely open to the public. and its a great area for walking as well.

I was at Woking station yesterday and an EWS diesel hauler came past so I barely looked up....but it was pulling ‘Union of South Africa’, another A4 up towards Waterloo. It wasn’t moving quickly but still too quick for me to get my camera out, darn it.

Robert Taylor that’s only if they’ve put to much coal in and was virtually exclusivel to American loco because all USA thought of them was as a work horse so they weren’t treated correctly

adding an removable Extension pipe of about 4-5 feet will keep the smoke and ashes running into the drivers eyes and lungs.

I've always watched this video with excitement at the size of this locomotive, but also with puzzlement as something about it just doesn't look right. I finally figured out what was wrong about this locomotive. It's too short. It's stubby looking. It looks like it's too short in length by about 12-18".
