Don't get me wrong, it'd be great to have all 3 haha but I'm happy slowly working away on my 26ft FRP yacht (its almost as old as me haha!). Wouldn't swap it for anything else! Nice to see your back Chris after a long hiatus with COVID and life. Recommendation for teak decks which I use on Windermere where teak gets v green with the trees and fresh water is to brush it gently with path clear or patio cleaner. About £12 or so on Amazon. Means I don't gouge out the grain or even sanding nearly as much and keeps it that way for months. Like new. All the best. David.

My pleasure Chris. Fair winds and following inland waterways. Done it myself, opposite way from Sete, Canal du midi and river Rhone etc. you'll love it. Just strictly keep to the channels and dont get stranded on banks as the Hydroplants sometimes hold water back if the water is tight..for days.

On air again, finally! Thanks for this video. Would add a 6th danger: glowing sparks were falling on a not so fireproof white textile cover just close to the cutting area... ;) Btw, you can also use nettles to make a fine risotto: boil their leaves as they were spinach, then add them to a pair of spoons of butter melt (you can also add garlic while melting butter, but do not put more than a small clove) and fry for a minute or two to amalgamate. Put rice on it, water and half stock cube (if you don't have good broth) and let rice cook. When rice is almost ready, add salt, butter if it's too dry and add a generous amount of grated parmesan cheese. Easy to make and very tasty! :)
@SailingBritaly5 ай бұрын
Thank you very much Paolo, I'll give that recipe a go some time! As for the angle grinder, if I'd have done that in the UK offshore industry, I'd have been on the first chopper home for breaching so many health and safety rules. Then again, in other parts of the world the workers would do this in flip flops with no eye protection, so it's all relative. Thank you for watching & commenting! Chris 👍
@paolomannaro88545 ай бұрын
@@SailingBritaly I agree, also the frequence of a work must be taken in consideration: one thing is to work on that all days all year long, other is to do it sometimes and just for a while. You wear eye protection, that's a good basic standard. Will wait for more videos, thanks for sharing!

Hi! We just did the Canals from Amsterdam to the Med this winter, going through Belgium! We really enjoyed it, if you have any questions just ask. We wish you a beautiful, safe, journey. Sailing Donna
@SailingBritaly5 ай бұрын
Hi there, we'd love to know more! Do you have a list of the waterways you did? Any tips? Cheers, Chris 👍
@sailingdonna52245 ай бұрын
Our draft is 1.8 meters so some of the routes were no option or we didn't want to take the risk. We entered the inland waterways in Terneuzen (Netherlands) and sailed around Gent over the Leie/Lys to Lille. From there we followed the liaison Dunkerque Escaut - if you enter from the Belgium coast you could enter here - until we reached Canal du Nord. We wanted to do Canal ST Quentin as this is more scenic and with nicer stops, but this was closed due to an incident. Paris by boat was on our bucketlist, so we followed the Canal Lateral de l'oise downstream until reaching the Seine at the confluence st Honorine. From there upstream to Paris and on the river Marne. If you want to skip Paris with the olympics coming up, you could choose the shorter route from Canal du Nord/Quentin to Reims. After the Marne we got on the canal lateral de la Marne and Canal entre Champagne et Bourgogne. Its not the most well known route for sailboats as the lock keeper was quite surprised two sailboats in a month had passed haha but it appeared to be the deepest as its still used by loaded barges and with less locks than the other canals. After this canal we got on the Saône and everything was easy and quick going downstream. The waterlevel was quite high with all the rain last winter, but since youre going early in season i dont expect too big of an issue. We only touched the muddy bottom while trying to moor with 1.8m draft and we got out without issues and no damage. While sailing in the middle of the canals we never hit the ground although the depth sounder was negative as it measured the waterplants😂 Our biggest tips would be: - using the center cleat in the locks and then a second line on the stern cleat to make sure she doesnt turn sideways - we took about 10 fenders (old ones from others) and just covered all the touching points where youd normally hit a wall if youd lost control. This was also very nice when we suddenly had to moor on the starboard wall per instruction of the lock keeper, just gave us time when we missed the bollard on the first throw haha - we took two diy fenderboard (a wooden plank with a hole for a line to hang it up) which were helpful in the few locks where the sides where made of sheet piles and in the locks that overflow or fill up to the brim. The fenders float so it was nice to have the fenderboard keeping us from the wall. - bought cheap rubber like gloves in the boatshop in Compiégne which have been amazing from the nasty slimy walls in the locks We used both the VNF app and Boating (Navionics) for information on locks and depths, and also Navily for docks and ports more towards the Saône and Rhône. Not sure about your draft, but if its close to ours and you want to know where we moored or if there is any specific info youd like, feel free to ask or give us a call!

Also when I did the inland water way down the U.S. I used a set of ratchet straps to hold down the mast, with each end on the toe rail. I found that really held them tight to the supports, and prevented a lot of the small movement caused by vibrations, small waves, etc

Get a couple of two handed Bahco scrapers with carbide blades and scrape the paint off....we did our First 35 last year and much faster and cleaning than sanding
@SailingBritaly5 ай бұрын
Hi there, I did try using one of those. It was good at shifting a lot of the paint, but it left little spots of ablative in the indentations, which needed sanding out. The 24 grit worked very well, it's just a shame I didn't use this from the beginning. I'd have preferred a soda blasting really, but it appears that there is a gap in the market for that in Belgium, as I couldn't find anyone to do it. Cheers, Chris 👍

You can try doing what I did to avoid risking slipping with a screwdriver: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pZClp2qVqaaCj5Y Try to clean all the paint off first as this makes a massive difference to how likely it is to slip. Tapping fasteners with a hammer can often help free them up too. Happy fixing! Chris 👍

Your channel SEO performance shows that your channel and video tags are chosen randomly, without proper keyword research. As a result, your tags are not ranked or high-volume ranked, which is why your videos do not appear at the top of search results. Consequently, you are missing out on potential views and subscribers.
