Thanks for posting. I got my port installed a couple of months ago. I've had 4 chemo infusions and am doing well. Side effects are minimal and tolerable. I am losing my hair but I'm a 71year old male and it was getting pretty thin on top anyway. My minor symptoms from chemo treatments are sensitivity to cold on my finger tips. I ware a glove to get things out the the fridge or freezer. Hiccups. I have hiccups for a couple of days after a treatment, even while sleeping. Taste. Everything tastes different than it use to. Some things I used to crave I no longer like, and some things I was not interested in before I now crave. A bit of fatigue but I'm overcoming that with some moderate exercise and going to bed earlier than normal. I don't have any desire for hard liquor anymore, just various wines and the occasional Skinny Girl Margarita. When I go into the chemo room there are about a dozen chairs in a slight semicircle. I'm always the most healthy looking guy in there. I feel sad for the others much worse off than me. Everyone's experiences are different, just hang in there and let us know how you do.

Wishing you a smooth ride as you go through chemo. Thank you for including us in your journey. I am interested in the tumeric paste recipe and how you use it. I really hope your cold cap helps you keep your hair. It’s beautiful. Hang in there, you are strong and courageous. You’ve got this!

I hope your weekend goes well. The port is super handy to have. Your nurse can even give you numbing cream to apply ahead of time so you don’t ever feel pokes. Rest and relax and let the chemo zap that cancer away. 🛌✨

I usually felt good until the 4th day then it hit me…. Fatigue and nausea…..the first few treatments you bounce back pretty fast but by the 6th round it took me about 2 weeks to feel somewhat normal again….🤗❤️👍🙏🙏

From Ontario Canada 🇨🇦. My Warrior Friend. I commend you for your calm spirit in all this. You are to be admired for your preparedness & for taking us with you on this cancer journey. You are in my thoughts & prayers for all that you are going through right now. My first chemo treatment left me pretty sick as I hadn’t mastered my pain/nausea meds but got better eventually as to what I needed. I found day 3/4 after chemo was the hardest. The 1st week is a lot of fatigue, with next couple weeks gradually better (21 day spread between my treatments). I never did any cold cap (🤞🏻 for you ) or cold therapy on feet or hands. I did suffer with painful neuropathy in my feet & they cut back from 100% Taxol to 80% which helped immensely also had Carboplatin too. Of course not everyone is the same but just some insight into my reactions should you feel same. Sending you hugs 🤗 ❤️.

I remember fixing and taking a bunch of snacks to my first chemo session or two and to pack in my chemo bag which was huge and realized I totally over-packed and tired of carrying the big bag and I was not wanting snacks because I was so nauseated and only ate a couple of crackers the nurses gave me. It was the only thing that sounded good and enough to put in my stomach. So much for all of the healthy snacks. Ask your nurse for a prescription of lidocaine cream to put on your port about 45 minutes before port access, it numbs it and it’s not so painful when accessed. I hope the cold cap works for you, I have lymphoma and cold-capping is not recommended for people with blood cancers. Although my particular immunotherapy and chemo combo usually does not cause hair loss. Good luck!

Hi Amanda, I hope it went well. The only side effect I experienced was terrible joint pain about three days after. It was bad but it only lasted a day or so. I used to take my coloring books with me and I usually fell asleep for some of the time.

Turmeric is good for the inflammation, I can't take it unfortunately bcs I'm already on blood thinners, I also just got the port, it'll take some getting used to but I hear it makes the blood draws and infusions much smoother, all the best going forward, one day at a time 💕

All the very best for chemo. Hope you go well with the cold cap. I found the cold cap quite claustrophobic and couldn’t tolerate it. If l had gorgeous hair like yours l probably would have tried for longer. I do know other people who coped well and managed to keep their hair so fingers crossed. ❤

This is not the original poster, but I got a port a couple of months ago and the procedure was not painful at all, neither during or after. There is a little "poke" when they plug the infusion packs into your port, but no worse than like taking a blood draw from your arm. Just a quick pinch. After 4 treatments I don't dread the next one at all.

This is such an immature response and such a nasty message. The difficult parts of life don't need to be kept private. That's such an old-fashioned and unhealthy attitude, and shame on you for vocalizing it to someone going through cancer treatment. Seriously the lowest blow you can take. You should be ashamed at your low emotional intelligence and lack of compassion for others and their struggles. Get off the internet if it's too much for you.
