So...unfortunately, spot shrimp tend to be caught in deep water. At least 200+ feet. Not sure of any spot that would work without a boat

Nice video. Just a quick tip. Get a 10 liter, retangular rubbermaid bin and coil your line directly in there. Keeps you from having to uncoil and untangle everytime you take the line out. Have quck disconnects for your floats and connects for the traps. I am able to store 475ft of line per bin. I used to use garden hose roller but the bins mean i can coil rope directly into the bins as im retreaving the trap without needing someone else to turn a garden hose roller. More compact storage too.

Anchor above the pot is interesting, that so you dont have to weight your pot itself?

I actually do both. The anchor on the line reduces the impact of the float causing the pot to move and it helps keep the pot in place along with weighting the pot itself. With a round / conical style, you need the pot anchor on the pot itself, the above only applies to the octagon / square pots

Hey if there is high current during the shrimp dates can I use the anchor to hold it in place ? Lot of people are saying shrimping this year will be bad due to currents so what would your advice be shrimping during high current ?

Look, high currents and threaten your pots, but even if you anchor your pots (always a good idea), shrimp are not as active in higher currents. Looking at the tides, and I’m going to highlight this more in my 2022 shrimp season blog post…get your shrimp early around the tide change slack current. It’s possible on good tides to get 6 limits in 2.5 hours or less. That’s my best suggestion, be fast, efficient and get it done quickly. Another suggestion is shrimp in areas that are not main channels. Stat away from higher currents, look at coves and areas closer to shore with lighter currents. Good luck!

We've been killing it on Hood Canal! First boat back to the launch with their limit for 6 people, 2 shrimp openers in a row. And...And a friend who's been consuming all this content just pulled up his first pot of shrimp and it was 173! A big big part of it is knowing where to drop your pots vs just following other people around. A few more openers in Hood Canal this year, good luck everybody!
