You could create "folding shelves" with a hinge at the bottom, utilizing the space between the roof beams. Inside each shelf, you could store items in "bed rollers." This setup works best for smaller items or tools, which are often plentiful in a garage. When you fold a shelf down, it would rest on the storage unit on the opposite side, allowing easy access to the bed roller and its contents. (hope this made some sens)

That sounds like a smart solution 👍 However, I have since posted this video made the choice of making drawers. I have ordered 120 heavy duty drawer slides, from 1meter to 30cm long, a total of 250 Kg 😬 don't even ask about the price ...😅

You have a setup most of us would be happy with. The upstairs workshop ‘white room’… I assume there are beams behind the white ceiling panels..? What about fold down panels for hinged shelving/compartments between the beams? Looking forward to the next bike video👍

My upstairs workshop is insulated, there is no available space between the struts since they are filled with insulation 😔 Looking forward to continue on the Honda cafe racer, it's my winter project 😊

Whatever you do, just remember to have a decently sized area dedicated to "random" items. Helps prevent categories from overflowing with junk.

Yes, that's a very good tips! I really hope to have 1/4 or perhaps even 1/3 of the storage capacity free and available after I have put all my stuff back into the new system. I have learned the hard way that a new and nice storage system becomes a mess pretty fast if you fill up 100%. Regardless if it's just a cabinet, some shelves or a whole room - it should absolutely have a lot of free space after it is made, when it's full it's too small 🙄

22:47 That will save so much space. I have/had so much stuff i could buy cheap and quickly, taking up way too much room. One idea, you could use the space above where cars are parked, using ropes and pulleys to lower/raise a storage deck. Anyway good luck.

Nice work! Keep in mind that with a too narrow aisle it is probably not possible to pull the trolleys out fully. That could still be ok with smaller items stored in the back!

Yes, I need to have two trolleys per section, one in front - approx 1 meter max length, and this one needs to be put aside to get the inner one. I think 🤔

I think lighting will be your biggest challenge. Maybe painting the wood white would help? Looking forward to your solution

Yes, that is a good idea. I actually just bought white primer. The walls and the ceiling will be white, perhaps the storage front light grey as I have it downstairs 🤔

You might consider lights in the cupboards so your shadow is not in the way

I have to consider tackling this as we are having a new garage built in the coming months. It is Colorbond steel framed though so will not be as easy to build. Your little foibles with the colour matching crack me up!!

@@GarrickPayne I would assume you need to do it differently with a steel framed buildings. I will be using the wooden structure (the struts) directly as part of my storage system framework. I don't really know though, perhaps you can add on some brackets and do something similar? Good luck with your new garage!!! 👍

I like the trolly system You have. There can be a ton of stuff in those. Like use boxes to put stuff in and stack them on the trollys. I would use those trollys all the way round the floor.

Agree! It's also a non-expensive and not very complex build. I think it's a smart way to store heavy things 👍

The idea with rolling carts is a good idea, though I would have made them just wide enough for the roofbeams. Each cart should have the length that would be 32% of how wide the room is aprox 1,7 meter. This would that the walking area is fully used and you can see down into whole cart. The carts on the floor should have 5 casters, one in each corner and one in the center. The ones in the corner should have a washer or raised so that the one in the middle is only supporting wheel. Make more carts that roll on what you had before as table, just shorter. Make somes custume "sawhorses" that would create a surface for them to roll out on. The expensive solution could be Heavy Duty Drawer Slides.

Your "untidy" storage area was far tidier than my garage. I am a bit of a hoarder, but largely because I like to have things ready and in stock should I need them. Better to just go to the stash of oil, coolant, wiring, indicators, brake pads, cables, etc when I need them rather than waiting for them to be delivered.

Yea, it is absolutely handy to have spare parts at hand when you need it. I have decided to take the complete oposite aproach. I try my best to not have any spare parts laying around unless it's to be used in my current project, trying my best to follow the "just in time" method. It requires more planning, and if something unplenned happens - well then I have to wait for the shipping 😌

@@kihestad ,planning is not my strong point. Too likely I plan myself into doing nothing. I just had to order a shim kit for a friends bike to do the valves. Thatmeans a shim kit for future use!

The trolly system is really nice :) the only thing that distrub me is the wall in beetween the two rooms, is it really necessary ? it would be better space wise but also with lighting. Then you can continue the same system of the other room all along :) but as another coment said, you are already a lot tidy :) good luck !

@@midnightc0mmander Tidy is my thing 😅 The reason for two rooms upstairs is the cold winter months here in Norway. Heating is expensive. I can now keep the inner insulated room at around 10C / 50F temperature the whole winter without it becoming too expensive. The rest of the garage is freezing cold for most of the winter.

The reason for two rooms upstairs is the cold winter months here in Norway. Heating is expensive. The upstairs workshop room is insulated, and I can keep on heating during winter to keep it at around 10C / 50F temperature without it becoming too expensive. The storage room upstairs as well as the downstairs garage main area is not insulated and is freezing cold for most of the winter.
