Andrew if you make a video on what to wear to a gig. Perhaps you can discuss any differences between a DJ that moves and dances a lot when he is on the decks vs one that is more sedentary. Either one in my eyes is fine - it may vary how they interact with the crowd. I myself am not one of those types of DJ's that jump around and step to the beats - I'm more of just a head bobber. But I don't think that makes me play any different from one who might seem more 'interactive' with the controls. Just a thought.

I hate when DJ's go over board with the effects especially with the filter knobs. Like every 3 seconds of the song. Like come on enough already.

That’s great advice on not relying too much on visuals. Interesting tidbit: I DJ’ed for a small group of friends over the weekend using a DDJ-1000 and one the songs loaded up wrong in Rekordbox. The beatgrids were totally off and trying to beat match visually just wouldn’t have worked. But I was really glad that I was able to beat match by ear. I just completely ignored the visuals and knowing how to do it without the visuals saved me in that moment.

Nice. Intresting and usefull as always Andrew. Would it be possible for you to explain us, why is that Pioneer developed two different softwares and so incompatible with each other? Of course I´m talking about Serato and RecordBox. Using Serato means to re-do all work on tracks to migrate to Recordbox, ain´t? Thanks in advance. Regards

Another advantage to being able to play on anything (or even broken gear) is you can show up to shows and parties with headphones and records/CD's/USB and be ready to go. Got quite a few sets by a promoter or other dj running up to me and asking if I had headphones and music because somebody canceled last minute. Gotta say though going from more traditional club (vinyl/cd) gear to MIDI/ standalone took a while to get used to. Scratch/turntablism is still a challenge.

I hide the wave forms and it’s a really good idea. After an hour I’m fast enough with beatmatching, I also give myself more time for it so I plan transitions in different time of the song and also it workouts really good. I have also more time to play with eq so my transitions are even smoother. It also benefits because I don’t look at my laptop so often, I have ddj 800 so I see these mini waveforms, but it’s enough. That’s brilliant.

With the Hot Cues, If I set 4 cue points on a controller, say 2 on the first row and 2 on the bottom row, on a CDJ like nexus 2000 will it only show the first 2 cue points since it only has 4 or will it show all 4 hot cues?
@arend36693 жыл бұрын
the CDJ actually have 8 cue's but they're divided on 2 "banks" so it would show your first cue points on bank 1 and the other 2 on bank 2.
@deanburke63903 жыл бұрын
@@arend3669 brilliant thank you mate. I might try get into the habit of just using the 1 bank so that they are all available on the same one

I use a controller and use the memory cues as visual labels (like mixout points or vocals or whatever) on the tracks. That's why I like Rekordbox, these memory cue don't clutter up the performance pad's hotcue view.

My DDj-1000SRT arrived last week, and it's so much fun being able to beatmatch now without any visuals. And another epic video man, I truly enjoyed this one, it's like taking the training wheels off when you take the beat grids away :) To anyone wondering about buying the course, like Shia La Boeuf says, JUST DO IT! lol Seriously, you won't regret it, and this guy is a legendary teacher!

I'm a rekordbox/ddj800 user, and i find pretty easy to use Traktor, but I fucking hate serato, so being able to adapt my sets to that program has been one of my challenges this last clandestine season. Ironically, the worst scenario that has repeated a lot to me this latest months has been controllers with jogs-not-working so you are forced to use sync lmao. (Im still dreaming to finally prove myself into cdjs 😭)

Can you share what you use to suspend your overhead camera? Also, I've really gotten into your use of EQ mixing. I've been mixing for years and even though EQ mixing isn't as necessary when performing Pop, Hip Hop and R&B, it does seem to make House music & Electronica sound more smooth when mixing. Thanx!!!

As a beginner using a DDJ-400/1000, I've become "dependent" on using Beat Jump on 32 beats to quickly navigate my way around tracks. Is Beat Jump available on (older) club gear somewhere?

Awesome video andrew! I have noticed that there are still clubs and venues that have both cdj/usb and vinyl decks in them. Gives me hope for the future to continue with vinyl at clubs. How do you feel about the vinyl movement coming back and venues still supporting both as choices for the DJs? Do you think that more places should be open to this notion? Love your content and thank you for all your work! 🙏👍🍻 🐉☁️

100% everything Andrew said. My first gig the equipment was pretty old. The cue button didn't work properly, the filter wasn't working. It felt weird because the buttons were in a different place. I had relied too much on visual clues & very often Rekordbox analyses the songs incorrectly. But you roll with it. Learn solid beatmatching right at the start & it will make your life 100% easier.

For those using Traktor, you can do the same as in 3:36 by using the "search" view (click the magnifying glass icon). That will expand the library view and you will only see a tiny tiny visualization of the track decks with only the BPM, time and a small waveform.

What would be your definition of “older gear?” Could you possibly give some examples? I’m trying to figure out if your specifically talking about older Pioneer CDJs or other products from pioneer/other companies.
@ClubReadyDJSchool3 жыл бұрын
Older gear I am referring to is basically gear with limited visuals / doesn't sync that you could still find in some clubs: CDJ 2000's, CDJ 900NXS, CDJ 800, CDJ 900's - in my experience it's Pioneer that you will most likely find in clubs, but then again I know lots of venues that have the newer nexus models too - which are awesome to play on :)
