Hi from Scotland. I was wondering if you have ever thought of using the sheep wool as insulation on walls of new house. In the UK and lots of other places they are starting to use sheep wool as insulation. You have both done so well with your hard work. You are amazing parents and wonderful people. The world needs more people like you. Much love xxxxxxx,

In my country they do that to. I mean, I know of one company that uses wool from local sheep to create insulation. The thing is I do believe it needs to be processed in some kind of way before, as in you can't just place it in your walls the way it is after the shearing. Nevertheless it's an amazing source of a high quality fiber.

I've heard about that here too (Belgium and France) and also about the possibility of making felt, which is a fairly stiff but very waterproof fabric.

yes, it needs to be washed in some way, to kill any bugs (but keep the lanolin?), and carded a little, I think.

I think that wool used for insulation is also treated with a fire retardant.

Once again us patrons are not disappointed. This video started out with beautiful images of the land you love. We enjoyed learning about the sheep, Tova and Ivar pulling carrots made us smile for joy of his fast learning, his excitement for each surprise carrot he pulled out. The garden is happy which means come spring it will have had a long sleep in the winter and will start to thank you back. Tova, you have a beautiful smile. Matis, works so hard for you all. We always look forward to the videos and enjoy seeing the progress you both make on the farm. We are praying God will send new wheel’s for the chicken coop so it can be used. Sending you Love and prayers. Cheryl from Michigan USA.

So good to see you both being gentle with the sheep while sheering them, your animals are not distressed at all, they seem to enjoy their haircut. As for the wool, if it is not good enough quality to make woolen yarn out of it, I guess it could still be good for making felt from it. Your question above reminded me that I used to have a felt boot (with a zipper on front and rubber sole) when I was about 10 years old, and despite what they say on Wikipedia that it is generally not water proof, mine was. When we went to play in the snow my friends all gone home with wet boots and socks as the water seeped through the stitching of their boots, but my feet were dry and comfortable all the way . Also, thinking of larger quantities of wool, here in Australia you can buy manufactured wool mats cut to size for insulating the house . So, I guess wool doesn't necessarily have to be professionally cut or very high quality to be extremely useful.

Have you considered saving the sheep's wool for insulation? We used it in our camper van. It is very nice to work with, moisture and pest resistant and has good insulating properties. I don't know how hard it is to clean it for use in this way (we purchased it already processed), but it might be worth considering.

lots of things can be made from wool, you can spin it to form fibre for knitting and weaving, you can felt it to make felt hats and cloth, you can even use it as insulation in your walls, if its not over processed and cleaned, the lanolin in the wool makes it water resistant.

I would like to add to the comments on uses for wool: if you can separate the longer locks and bag them, they can be used to spin high quality wool by hand. Another commenter all mentioned felting which is great for mixed weight wools - warm water and lots of agitation will bind those fibres together into a very sturdy, almost waterproof cloth, that can be used in gardening for seeding sheets, for making things within the home such as slippers or cushion covers etc. Finally the wool can be gently then washed and used for stuffing for things like pillows. Hope this helps 😊
