I watch your videos all the time. I just love everything I've seen so far and it gave me the courage to start doing a few pieces myself. You make it look so easy...but so far for me it hasn't been!!! The last piece I did was sanded, cleaned had a good coat of primer and I actually like the way my first color blend turned out BUT I noticed my paint does not have good adhesion! Grrr...I was going to sand and seal the piece but now I'm afraid that even a light sanding would remove too much. I'm sorry this has been such a lengthy comment. I could use some advice. I did use latex paint that I just had on hand. I didn't want to spend too much before I found out if I had any skill at all!

Hi, Jamie, you may have been asked this question a million times, how do you start up a small business like yours..? I would love to do something like your shop but on a small scale, for the summer/ fall time. Mostly tourist in the area and maybe a few locals may visit. I live in a very small area and not many people are into buying big items but I love to paint and re purpose items I find. How big is your shop, the square footage? I’m sure you guys have a pretty high quality control. But just curious if you’ve ever ran into a piece with mold on it. If so, what methods/precautions did you take? I’m currently restoring a 75+ year old bureau, that’s been in my family for ages and I’ve noticed some mold spots on the inside. 😩 At this point, I’m not sure what the heck to do. I’d love to make it work if I can. But not sure how. I did purchase a mold microbial, which is supposed to kill existing mold and prevent it from growing further. I also plan on sanding down the areas I’m able to reach. But I’m wondering if there’s also some sort of sealant I should use? I’d like to keep the natural wood color on the inside. But if Kills would be a better option. I have no qualms spraying the inside white. Any tips would greatly be appreciated! I also wanted to give you an update on my gel staining project... I ended up finishing it. But still not totally pleased. I did end up using the same stain on a different type of wood and holy cow!!... What a difference! It came out perfect!! I think the maple was definitely less forgiving that this other type of wood, as it was much more porous and not as smooth. I’m glad I did that though. Otherwise, I don’t think I would of purchased it again. Loooove this vid btw AND the colors used!!...Sooooo purdy!
@JamiRayVintage
@JamiRayVintage 5 жыл бұрын
Oh man! Mold is tricky. We use bleach, respirators and a scrub brush to get what will come off. Careful not to breath any of that in. I would use zinnser shellac to lock in any stains. Might take 2-3 coats. Then paint over it whatever color you want.
@krissymichele
@krissymichele 5 жыл бұрын
I’m so relieved that you were going to tell me to toss it! The first thing I did, was scrub w/ bleach (literally using a toothbrush in those hard to reach areas) and I have Zinsser Shellac right on hand, so this is great news! I think I’m going to just spray the Shellac and leave it. 😬 Hope that’s ok to do. I’d rather not paint the inside of the bureau, if I don’t have to. Thanks again Jami! You guys are my everything! Seriously I’m so hooked! You need to have your own tv show!

What kind of sprayer are y'all using? I tried one once...it was terrible. I would like to know what works.

Here are some videos on using the sprayer we use. It’s the 20 oz HVLP central pneumatic sprayer. We get ours from harbor freight. kzbin.info/aero/PLprcXWqGeBKhlfJjGDODEV2XgHqY7WcK3

Do you clean up the drawers where paint dripped on the inside, or do you just leave it?

We use the central pneumatic HVLP. It looks like you can get it on amazon if you want the exact one we’re using. www.amazon.co.uk/Central-Pneumatic-Gravity-Feed-Spray/dp/B004SQS68U/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1533820663&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=central+pneumatic&dpPl=1&dpID=31B-ujDBlTL&ref=plSrch

I rotate clothes lol. I haven’t chances sizes for quite awhile so I have a lot of paint clothes. (And yes the paint washes out pretty well if I catch it quick.)

Do your neighbors ever complain because your working out off your house?
@JamiRayVintage

Nope. They all enjoy some of the things we’ve made in their own homes. Most have even given us free furniture in multiple occasions.
